Monophona is the story of two musicians who should never have met:
She's the introverted singer-songwriter, rooted in the folk-tradition of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Tom Waits…
He discovered DJ-ing as a teenager and soon made a name for himself not only as a turntable artist, but also as a drum&bass producer.
Her favorite sounds are those of fingers on strings, strings on wood, of the breath you draw before you open your mouth to sing.
He can spend days in front of computer tweaking a sound until it is just the one he's been looking for, creating atmospheres, building up a tune that speaks for itself and is in no need of words.
After having spent their twenties building successful careers in their respective fields, they shared a common desire to break new ground.
Monophona is the yet unheard of combination of Claudine Muno's love of folk and Chooks knowledge of sound design. She writes on the guitar or the Fender Rhodes, also thinking up the lyrics, while he turns the songs into musical worlds of their own.
It’s the perfect blend of two extremes, electronic yet intimate, melodic yet innovative. It’s the journey of two musicians who venture into terrain unknown to them both and discover a unique sound at the crossroad of their individual influences.
Sometimes you find perfect unison where you least expected it.
