Monsoon Staraw

 Chicago, Illinois, USA
BandHip HopSinger/Songwriter

Hip hop music with soul and creative lyricism. Hip hop music that evokes feeling and inspiration. My music is also entertaining, humorous, and very subject matter orientated. My music can relate to the working class people of the Midwest or the "Hollywood cats", the thug dudes or the college crowd.

Biography

Opening for such famous headliners as Slick Rick, Snoop Dogg, and Slum Village, Monsoon Staraw has achieved notoriety through acclaimed performance, songwriting, and searing lyricism. Influenced by Gil-Scott Heron, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, and Rakim. Monsoon began writing at the young age of 13, and began performaning on stage in 1999. His style was soon compared to such artists as Big Daddy Kane and Common. Though he has been compared to many, Monsoon remains unrivaled with his own enigmatic style and subject-oriented material.

Working in collaboration with other talented artists, Monsoon became a founding member of The Network Crew. As The Network Crew developed, Monsoon co-produced the album “Infinite Autonomy Presents: The Network” and coined the catchphrase “Rhymespitters”, which has spawned into a four-part documentary showcasing Chicago's freestyle battles. Monsoon quickly became an unparalleled performer and also co-produced two solo albums, “Complex Simplicity” and “The Ramen Noodlez Album”.

Monsoon's addictive rhymes and awe-inspiring performances have been showcased at various hot spots such as The Double Door, The Metro, Abbey's Pub, The Note, The Hothouse, and U.S. Beer Company. Increased popularity has led to additional performances in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the world famous First Avenue, and Crash Mansion in Los Angeles,California. Los Angeles proved to be a triumphant performance as Monsoon rocked a sold out crowd with Slum Village.

This astonishing performer has been interviewed by many well known and respected publications (The Chicago Sun-Times,Red Eye, and UR Magazine) and also has been featured on such television shows such as Metromix and I90 North, proving Monsoon is a true herald of his craft.
