"Mother Nature's Slaves"

Believe me boys and girls, there's nothing quite likea young power trio who will not give two hoots about current rock trends but instead derives its musical philosophy from the entire history of rock'n'roll.

Monstrous is three brothers from Rhode Island: Led Gethway (guitar & vocals), Ken Gethway (bass & vocals) and Alex Gethway (drums & vocals). Self-taught musicians, Los Bros Gethway started writing and playing songs before they were even teenagers.

On Mother Nature's Slaves, it's obvious that Monstrous' starting point is Nirvana. From Kurt Cobain's "Sabbath molesting Bay City Rollers" approach, the boys then move backwards to embrace the Flaming Lips, the Ramones, Syd Barrett, the Beach Boys and the Beatles (natch).

Thus, what the discerning pop-rock listener will get is a melange of fuzzy guitars, bubblegum tunes, diverse rhythmic styles, imaginative songwriting and a whole lot of iconoclastic attitude.

Wildly genre-bending from song to song, within the bedrock of melodic punk-inflected pop-rock, Mother Nature's Slaves will appeal to all card-carrying members of the pop underground. Tha means you! - PowerofPop.com

Bio

The Gethway brothers – Led (guitar/vocals), Ken (bass/vocals) & Alex (drums/vocals) – have been playing & stockpiling songs for over 10 years & used to travel around the country in a big white candy truck playing gigs & writing more songs. After living and recording in Portland, OR for several years (where they made fans of The Dandy Warhols, BRMC, Dinosaur Jr. and others), they are now back in Providence working on the follow-up to their debut album, Mother Nature’s Slaves (Howler Records). Influenced by Syd Barret, the Beach Boys, Forrest Carland, Leonard Cohen, the Beatles, the Ramones, Nirvana, Flaming Lips, and Lightning Bolt, their style careens from headbanging punk to beautiful rich harmony pop to off-the-map weirdness and chaos.
