"Photo Gallery and Live Review: From Deep Within + No Mistake + Montage of Jesus + The Decline- The Rosemount, Perth (24.11.10)"

On Wednesday night, The Rosemount played host to punker rockers The Decline, Montage of Jesus, No Mistake and From Deep Within.
First up was a special treat. An acoustic set from Perth surf punksters, The Decline. It was great to see musicians who don’t take themselves too seriously and who totally enjoy performing their craft. They inject fun into their lyrics and performance and they know how to play and how to play well. A brilliant set, a joy to watch and sorry to those that didn’t like my last review, but I still think they sound like an early version of Blink 182….. except now they even wear their t shirts.
Next up was, Montage of Jesus, who played some magnificent heavy, bass driven, lush, atmospheric rock. “Here’s to waking up” is a sensational song and definitely a highlight. It was also great to see Ben Elliot being adventurous and showing off some skinny red jeans instead of the almost obligatory black ones. At one stage a member of the audience jumped on stage and sang(growled) his was through one of Montage’s songs… awesome to watch.
No Mistake followed with some sensational songs, some brilliant music, all nice and fast. On a side note, apparently the reason most of their songs are short, is because they’ve modeled them on their sexual experiences, but no one in the crowd was willing to testify to this.
Last but by no means least was From Deep Within, who after a dedication to the Pike River Miners, launched into a ferocious aural attack. These guys are brilliant. Well-constructed songs and lyrics, absolutely insane drumming by David Meyrick and masterful performances from Patrick Gengler and Brendan Manns, From Deep Within and a band to be reckoned with.
Listening to these four bands you know the future of local punk rock is in very capable hands. If you get a chance to see them live, do not miss it. - The AU Review - Tony Lendrum
