Bio

“These hype Winnipeg B-Boys are so dedicated, they’ll leave you convinced hip hop started in the prairies.”
NOW Magazine Toronto

What happens when three masters of each element within hip hop culture unite, each with digs that range from skater through funk through old school rap and b-boy charm?

What equation is necessary to pop a hype and distinctive Canadian hip hop presence that has been steadily building for the past few years?

MOOD RUFF, previously nominated for four Prairie Music Awards, two Western Canadian Music Awards and a Blizzard Award hits us with a new studio album titled I Do My Own Stunts and this release easily answers these questions. Three national releases from this crew since 1999 have led to the creation of this full length studio album, governed not by trend, but by innovation. Together, these boys smoothly build beyond simple pop formulas and deliver a range of sound with hypnotic dexterity.

The members of the Mood Ruff crew include Odario, Spitz, ICQRI and Breakz who collectively share roles as Emcee, B-Boy, DJ and Graf Artist. Representing Peg City, these ‘brothers from different mothers’ define and refine hip hop punk with solid funk, breaking beats and lyrical skill that inspires. Their unforgettable live show exhibits each of the various elements within hip hop culture effortlessly, most recently showcased at SXSW in April this year and at JunoFest (Canada's most prestigious annual music award show).

They have opened for Public Enemy, k-os, Sum 41, Mix Master Mike, Black Moon ... and have worked with Kemo (Rascalz), Zion I (Oakland), Breeze Eva Flowin (NYC) to name a few choice acts over the span of their career together.

MOOD RUFF is no stranger to the Canadian television screen. Our Brothers from different Mothers have made appearances on Damix, NewMusic, Electric Circus, MuchWest, and hosted a two part series of Peg City's hip hop scene for RapCity. They have just finished co-directing their fifth music video in five years titled Blow the Bins, a throwback display of all four elements of hip hop culture.

I DO MY OWN STUNTS (rel. May, 2005) is a classy collection of Hip Hop filled with fine malt lyrics, butter beats and off the wall tactics. Their first single from this album, ROCKETSHIP, has received heavy rotation on MuchVibe, medium rotation on Muchmusic and MTV Canada as well as radio airplay from a range of stations across the nation. Two more singles and accompanying videos are on deck; the release of "Blow the Bins" to radio, djs and video will accompany a western Canadian tour in early July, with plans for a North American tour in late 2005.
