"Moore - Self Titled EP"

Moore

Self Titled EP

by Pauline Hess

Channeling rock goddesses of the past, vocalist Liani Moore has the tough, don't mess with me attitude of Joan Jett, the vocal chops of Chrissie Hynde and the sex appeal of Terri Nunn. With these credentials, she makes fronting the band Moore look effortless. Well beyond ably backed, guitar legend Mike Farrell, bassist Steve Robinson and drummer extraordinaire Alexa Golden, make Moore one of the tightest bands to see live in Sacramento and their flawless live performances are translated nicely on their newly released self-titled EP.

The songs are a collection of stories chronicling life as a single young woman. Each one seems to have the backdrop of night, similar to Benatar's love savvy Crimes of Passion. The EP is a midnight tour through the landscape of failed relationships in Sacramento draped over a backdrop of swaying grooves.

Some of my favorite moments on the disc include Farrell's swirling guitar work around Liani's electric violin hook in "Sidewalk Song," the slow build of intensity from verse to chorus in "If I Go" and vocal harmonies in "View of Blue." I have to say that my favorite track on the disc is their cover of The Pretenders' "Tattooed Love Boys." It's always been a favorite song of mine and the band handles it beautifully, putting just enough of Liani's unique, sexy, sultry spin on the vocals and Farrell's signature guitar sound to make it their own and still pay homage to its originators.

Still a relatively young band, I look forward to hearing more from this powerhouse group of musicians. And I would encourage folks to go out and see them live. They've got the most polished stage performance in town and now, the most polished CD.

"Kulczyk's Korner"

"Moore has released a great debut of rocking anthems reminiscent of Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust”-era. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Liani Moore plays like the goddess that she is. Add ace guitarist Mike Farrell (Losin’ Streaks/Daisy Spot) to the mix of bassist Steve Robinson and darling drummer Alexa Golden and you got one hot CD." - maximumink.com - July 2006

Bio

Emerging from Sacramento, near the confluence of the mighty American and Sacramento Rivers, comes Moore.
Front woman Liani Moore’s sensuous charisma rages full, her voice up-front and evocative.

Committed to incendiary performances and tenaciously catchy songs, Moore is winning over an ever-growing stable of devoted fans with engaging lyrics, sing-along melodies and a transgressive instrumental mix that includes violin, acoustic and electric guitars, drum and bass.

Nothing timid about this pop, rock and roll animal.
File under Fire.
