BandFolkChildren's Music

With versatile comedic and heartfelt songwriting and engaging acoustic performance, Moorea Malatt is both a troubador and children's singer/songwriter with a comedic and progressive twist. Her music crosses the genres of alt-country, indie-pop, adult-cabaret, comedic folk and children's tunes.

Biography

Before becoming primarily a children's singer, Moorea led a musician’s double life playing an upbeat bouncing joyfully on a songwriter’s coffeehouse or small theater stage and then later the same night - naked covered by her Martin at one of your city’s finest cabaret dinner theaters. As the traditional troubadour, her strumming and picking is solid, her projection and enunciation crystal clear, which is fortunate since you will not want to miss a word of wit or nuance. Her newer children's music is simpler and completely family-friendly but not dumbed down- she writes so that the parents ears have something witty to grab on to! Environmentalism, diversity, breastfeeding, cheerios, sharks, and sweet dreams are favorite topics.

Eight years of experience as a touring musician, three studio folk albums: Love and Lack Thereof, Cut and Color, Quickie; a live album (The Naked Folksinger Live). Moorea shared the stage with the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, performance poets Alix Olsen, Tara Hardy and cabaret performance artists Julie Atlas Muz, and Dirty Martini.

Moorea now brings her voice to a new audience in the children's .genre, beginning with the 2011 release, Whip It Out: Songs for Breastfeeding. "Save the Seas ABCs" is coming in 2012

Lyrics

1000 Raisins

Written By: Moorea Malatt

One thousand raisins why I love you
One thousand cheerios I care
One thousand outfits in the laundry
Tomorrow’s big kid underwear

One thousand cartoon sippy-cups
One thousand strewn out wooden blocks
I wish you weren’t growing up
One thousand mismatched baby socks

You’ll always be my little Pumpkin
You’ll always be my little bean
I’ll always tell you when you’re older
How spinach made your poop bright green

One thousand stuffies in your bedroom
Doggies, bunnies, bears, a ghost.
One thousand books upon your shelves
But you like library ones most

One thousand raisins why I love you
One thousand cheerios I care
One thousand goldfish in the backseat
Im so glad you love to share!

The Nakie

The Nakie

I was three years old with a bathingsuit tan
Couldn’t get them pants on me joyful screaming I ran
My mom said” there’s a nakie in the house”
And I haven’t stopped streaking since.

So when my daughter was born, she was born undressed
She came up all slimy to her mama’s chest
They call it skin-to-skin The best way life can begin
Theres a brand new nakie in the house, brand new nakie (not spankin’)

She’s three months old And just she loves to flash
We gotta air out her booty So it won’t get a rash
She’s doin’ tummy timey with no diaper on her hiney
Theres a nudie cadoodie in the house, nudie cadoodie

She’s six months old and just learned to crawl
We just can’t seem to make her sit still at all
After the bathtub it’s a quadrapedal sports club
We chase the nakie through the house
Chase the nakie, chase the nakie

She’s just turned one and she’s wearing a dress
It was a sugar-free cake but it still made a mess

If this is what they mean by birthday suit
Theres a party nakie in the house, party nakie

She’s two years old and almost weaned
Mama’s been a super duper trooper breastfeeding queen
Baby says please please please, well since you asked so nicely
I’ll whip it out in the house

She was three years old with a bathingsuit tan
Couldn’t get them pants on her, joyful screaming she ran
Grandma said “There’s a nakie in the house”
And she hasn’t stopped streaking since
Just a nakie
