Moosejaw Muldoon

Moosejaw Muldoon

 Toms River, New Jersey, USA
BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

Moosejaw Muldoon breathes goofy charm all over their witty and vulnerable pop-folk songs.

Biography

Moosejaw Muldoon wants to make you laugh and cry - to evoke memories of skeeball on the boards in late summer, or getting kicked in the shins in 3rd grade. They want you to feel -perhaps the leg of the person next to you! MJ serves up a spattering of emotions across intelligent lyrics and rhythmic guitar, interspersed with random and often amusing ramblings.

Influences: Ani Difranco, Greg Dulli, Darren Hayman, REM, Amy Ray, Radiohead, Billy Joel.

"Humorous insights into human nature, relationships, self-awareness and willful denial layered over earnest, powerful guitar work beg the question; is MJ the musical offspring of Fred Rogers and Grace Jones?" - Rob Clayton, Parks and Wildlife

Lyrics

Speechless

Written By: Moosejaw Muldoon

Cat got my tongue
I don't want it back
been cut, still taste the blood
been nothing but trouble

but I like it here
so quiet, and nothing is broken...

Cat got my tongue
I don't want it back
keep it for when you cannot sleep
brought down by the lonely

but I like it here
so quiet, and open...

Cat got my tongue
I don't want it back
keep it, like a badge
to bury in your honor

and I won't say a word,
and you don't have to thank me
I won't say a word,
no , I won't say a word....

Half a Heart

Written By: Moosejaw Muldoon

I'm gonna need both these arms
to play this guitar
gonna need our hands too
guess that's tough shit for you

you can have the legs
I use a chair anyway
you realize that means
you get the bum knees and arthritis pain

but im keeping my ass
I worked way too hard for that
you get the belly and back
yours was always so flat

but what about all our friends?
what about all their love?
what about the expensive housewarming presents?
what about all that stuff?

what about all the furniture,
the houseplants and the doG?
what about the dirty pictures we took of each other
on nights so long ago?

who gets the dirty pictures we took of each other so long ago?

go get the measuring tape
we've got a heart here to break
we'll try for two equal halves
but you always had more of that

all the rest that is paired
I say it's only fair
split them all up in two
one for me, one for you

we spent so long as one
I don't know how to walk away
and its not just cause you got the legs
I don't remember how to breathe on my own

so I sit here in this chair
just an ass with arms and hands
now I don't have any friends
and only half a heart

now I don't have any friends,
and only half a heart

I'm off on my own, sitting alone,
with half a heart

Bella's Lament (Chinese Crested)

Written By: Moosejaw Muldoon

I welcome Summer
with covered legs
and open arms
beneath my blouse

there will be waxing
there will be waning
two weeks of shaving
before I go out

Oh my god
why do you hate me
exfoliate me
just like a model
oh lord make me
a chinese creseted
blonde hair and breasts and
a hairless body

my poor mother
i know she's dreading
Aunt Anna's wedding
'cause I'm in it now

She'll have my sister
sit on my chest and
she'll do her best to
tweeze my eyebrows

Oh my god
why do you hate me
exfoliate me
just like a model
oh lord make me
a chinese creseted
blonde hair and breasts and
a hairless body

now i just
can't understand
why the rich ad man
thinks I'm unfeminine

just because I
cover my breasts and
I don't wear dresses
and have more hair than him

Oh my god
why do you hate me
exfoliate me
just like a model
oh lord make me
a chinese creseted
blonde hair and breasts and
a hairless body

nineteen forever

Written By: Moosejaw Muldoon

Up in that house on the hill
everything's still
deathly still

You see me running for the train
everything's the same
baby I need some change

I don't know how
it's gonna sound
but I've gotta go now

Don't know why
I've gotta try
Please step aside

I never went back to that town
folks say the house
burned to the ground

Still I'm running for the train
everything's changed
baby I'm still the same

I don't know how
it's gonna sound
but I've gotta go now

Don't know why
I've gotta try
Please step aside

She called me to the hall at midnight
eyes shining in the tree lights
stories of a Christmas
twenty five years gone

A little girl I don't remember
singing the chill out of december
until she lost her voice
and she ran away from home

Set me free
tear off all these faces
there's someone under there
too scared to breathe

What I can't say
there's little I can change
and in this bed I lay awake.....
