Lyrics

One American Life

Written By: Moran Hill Hurwitz

She says she'll never leave me
every time she says goodbye
I know I can't stop her
but she’s knows I'm gonna try

“I got a freezer full of dinners
a pocket full of lists
But I'm not ready, baby
For what comes after this.”

PRE
She says Don't worry
And I say What else should I do?
Between the cookin', cleanin', workin', prayin',
and all the missin' you...

CHORUS
Swinging on the back porch with the kids
Dancing with your headphones
shakin' your hips
Holding me all night
'cause you like something I did
The woman, the mother,
the lover and the wife,
the American soldier
one American life

VERSE
I make the coffee strong
Bring her a cup in bed
The boys are with her parents
and running through our heads

We talk about the car pools
what the youngest eats for lunch
When to pay the mortgage
and how she'll keep in touch

PRE
She says Don't worry
And I say What else should I do?
Between the cookin', cleanin', workin', prayin',
and all the missin' you

CHORUS
Swinging on the back porch with the kids
Dancing with your headphones
shakin' your hips
Holding me all night
'cause you like something I did
The woman, the mother,
the lover and the wife,
the American soldier
one American life

BRIDGE
It's not always easy
to choose what's right
to believe in peace
enough to stand and fight

VERSE
At 2 AM the phone rings
Like she’s reading my mind
I can’t wait to hear her voice
through the static on the line

Half a world away
aching for her touch
I'm gonna tell her that I love her
and I miss her so much

FINAL CHORUS
Swinging on the back porch with the kids
Dancing with her headphones
shakin' her hips
Holding me all night
'cause she liked something I did
The woman, the mother, the lover and the wife,
the American soldier
one American life...

Sunday In The Country Drive

Written By: Moran Hill Hurwitz

(Come on, y’all)
(Let’s take us a drive in the country)

Cornfields going by left and right
kickin' up a cloud of dust
There’s a grandma rockin' on a porch-swing
and kids wavin' from a school bus

So much green in the summertime
feels good to be alive
Washboard bumpin', radio pumpin'
"A Country Boy Can Survive"

CHORUS
Shift it into four wheel drive
Pass the "No Trespassing" sign
Runnin' wild in the backwoods
Aw, don't it make you feel good?
Sunday in the country drive

A few good rainy days
and the puddles start filling up
No tellin' just how deep
‘til you're all kinds of stuck

Nothin’ but some dirt tracks
at the end of a gravel road
You’ll know went to far
when you're gettin' towed

CHORUS
Shift it into four wheel drive
get some mud up on the sides
Runnin' wild in the backwoods
Aw, don't it make you feel good?
Sunday in the country drive

BRIDGE
Red lights, stop signs
It’s a parking lot on the turnpike
and rush hour nine to five

So preacher say your last amen
I’m heading out where the pavement ends
and getting muddy with a bunch of friends

CHORUS
Past the "No Trespassing" sign
Shift it into four wheel drive
Runnin' wild in the backwoods
Aw, brother don’t it feel good?
Sunday in the country drive
(Watch that ditch!
Sunday in the country drive
(You’re gonna roll her!)
Sunday in the country drive
(I know, I been there)
