BandFolkRock

Let's simply put it that way : Modest Mouse meets Iron & Wine & Sigur Ros ! Mordekai the Falcon invites the listener through a journey into an intimate universe where folk meets the energy of indie rock, all the while bathing in a sparse, but yet touching, electronic soundscape.

Biography

Coming from a creative process that’s both inspired and reflected upon, “The Day I Choked” celebrates the first effort of the Montreal-based band Mordekai The Falcon. The result opposes both warm and comforting sounds to a wide range of disturbing and challenging moods. Channelled into a unified patchwork of personal and eclectic backgrounds, the music of the band was inspired by the sincerity of such recordings as those of Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine and Sigur Ros. Therefore, “The Day I Choked” invites the listener through a journey into an intimate universe where folk meets the energy of indie rock, all the while bathing in a sparse, but yet touching, electronic soundscape.

« The Day I Choked » was shaped by long time collaborators and music accomplices Michel Dupuy (vocals, acoustic guitar, songwriting and lyrics) and Hugo Iannuzzi (guitars, songwriting, sound engineering, producing, mixing) who were also part of the band The Suspicious Looking Waiters in the 1990’s. Underlining the irony and the paradox of the era we live in, the melody induced songs of Mordekai The Falcon shed some light on the fear and the inability of one to face the everyday tasks of our so-called modern world.

To support the two main songwriters for the live performances of Mordekai The Falcon, the band also includes professional music scholars: David Gaudreau on bass, Catherine Sauvé on piano and Luc Catellier on drums. Finally, we shall not forget the input of Philippe Massabki (Cowboy Junkies, Plume) at the helm for the mastering and of the lovely Martine Groulx (Camaromance & SOPREF) who gracefully lent her voice on some of the tracks of the album.

Recent gigs featured bands as The Camaromance & The Darling DeMaes.

Dying Zoo

Written By: Michel Dupuy

Dying Zoo

And you're crying 'cause your dead cat is filling up with maggots and you can't get yourself to bury it seems like you've done too much of that lately And you're having a breakdown 'cause your dog's all stiff and when you pet its head you think of your past loves and through your tears you start smiling hugging your dead rabbit with your nose in its fur you sing a happy song suddenly wish your canary would sing along and that your parrot would carry on but their beaks have been shut for so long The snake would hiss and laugh at you if he wasn't that weak the fishes still dance in their tank only a lot slower and mostly upside down you're the only monkey still around and as a provider you failed to your task 'cause you're the only one who knew that they were once alive... that you were once allied.

Peepshow

Peepshow

If you were to talk to me seems I would break your face I don't attend my meetings not
anymore I've learned to suppress most of my feelings I've grown fond of my painkillers'
taste Put it on a credit card you don't intend to pay put it on a radio you don't expect to play looking for guidance through ghostly airwaves but the host just shouts and mostly raves Fumes were coming out from the tip of my fingers my eyeballs were forced out of their sockets people in the front rows didn't mind the scene dancers at the peepshow tonight were too obscene People in the front rows didn't watch the fight dancers at the peepshow tonight were too uptight .

Don't Raise Your Head

Written By: Michel Dupuy

Don't raise your head

Someday the sun will set us free I swear I'll forgive you if you forget me don't you raise your glass don't you raise your head this man is evil this man is dead Well hello hello hello stop talking to none stop breathing heavy on the line don't you lower your tone don't you raise your voice you broke into my car you thought you had no choice And recently the wind's been crashing trees to the ground the wind's been crashing me to the ground What a very very nervous mind you have what a very very small soul you bear don't you raise your self-esteem to high you're a piece of shit and I hope you die And recently the wind...
