West Texas songwriter sharing with the world the inner most expressions of my soul in the form of lyrical content.

Biography

Everybody has a story to tell. I just happen to tell mine through lyrical content infused with melodies from the heart.  No, this is not your ordinary biography that you might be use to reading but someone has to be willing to go against the norm.  Anyway, to share my story with the world has been a dream that I've been chasing since the age of 8 while watching my mother play the piano, sing and direct the church choir. Nothing moved me more than to listen to the emotions of her voice as she sang a touching rendition of "Don't Move My Mountain".  It was then I knew I wanted to be just like her. When I turned 9 my mother enrolled me in Classical Piano Lessons which I studied for 4 years. Inspired by Artists such as Sister Sledge, Chic, The Emotions, Earth Wind and Fire, Lakeside, Teena Marie, Phyllis Hyman and Angela Winbush, I took my first stab at writing a melody because in my mind, I just couldn’t grasp playing the music of other Artists when I knew I could do my own.  My first little job came when I was a Freshman in High School and my sister needed an anthem for a class project. So, I grabbed my $200 Yamaha keyboard and penned her an anthem that would give her and her group an A in class.  Bingo, I can actually do this. I've actually found my outlet.

Up to this point I have had the pleasure of qualifying in the top 20 of the 1997 Dallas Battle of the Bands competition with a song co-written and produced by myself and Connie Yarbrough. Too bad the actual competition was rained out. I can only imagine how we would have fared at the actual competition. Regardless, it was a major milestone for me as I continued chasing the dream of songwriting.  I don't limit myself to writing in a particular genre, I just write what my soul feels at that moment. Hence, getting back to the root of things, I had the pleasure of writing a Gospel song titled "Search Me Lord" that would find its way back into the hands of my mother who performed the song for the Southern Baptist Convention in 2006. Furthermore, another song titled "Walk On" would go on to win Honorable Mention in the 2006 ISC (International Songwriting Competition).

Also in 2006 through collaboration with ASCAP, I met up with Shedrick Sheppard and Dale Brown and formed the label Imurj Records. In charge of the R&B side of things, I had the ultimate pleasure of working and developing an amazing upcoming Dallas Artist named Kinyanna. Here was an opportunity to have someone else take what I have written, make it their own and convey it to the world and anyone who would listen.  Along with Kinyanna and Dallas songwriter Myeisha Meeks, producers Tehran "Psy2ko" Pearson, Valenti and myself, Imurj Records released Kinyanna's Debut Cd title "S to the 4th Power" in 2012.  Okay so it hasn't won any Grammy's.....yet, but nothing can surpass the high I feel when listening to a beautiful voice, soul and spirit such as Kinyanna sing my songs and take them to a level I never would have imagined.  It's that kind of high that has me sharing more of my work and telling my story of life experiences that have impacted me throughout the years.

In a nutshell, I'm a songwriter. I believe that the words and music must fit together like a hand in glove. I believe that it has to originate from the abyss of the soul and it doesn’t really matter how it turns out, whether it's R&B, Rock, Pop, Gospel or House as long as it inspires and touches and makes a difference in someone’s life, I'll continue to release the butterflies and allow them to fly.

Chasing After A Dream

Written By: Morgan E Balenton

Verse 1
You told me that I could be anything if I just believe in love.
You said to work real hard and never ever give up

Chorus
Now I’m chasing after a dream.
Trying hard to believe in that bright, Northern star,
That’s shining down, shining down on me.

Verse 2
Sometime I face many adversities and it seems the world is against me.
I’m tired, I’m weak and I’m all beat up
Cause life’s knocked me down on my knees

Chorus
Still I’m chasing after a dream.
Trying hard to believe in that bright, Northern Star,
That’s shining down, shining down on me.

Chorus 2
I’m Chasing after my dream
I’m trying to believe in that shining star
That’s shining down, shining down on me

Vamp
Chasing, Chasing, Chasing after a dream
Chasing, chasing, and I’m growing weak in my knees

Bridge
But I’m chasing after and I won’t give up until I’ve reached my peak
And I’m standing on top.
Looking up to the sky, with arms stretched wide under the Northern Star
That’s shining down on me.

Break

Verse 3
You told me and I believe
You said to work real hard and I’ll see my dream come true
Just see it through no matter what I may go through

Repeat original chorus

Reflecting On A Memory

Written By: Morgan E Balenton

VS 1
The night is calm with a cool breeze.
I can hear the soft whispers of the trees
reminding me of how we use to love;
shadow dancing underneath the moonlit sky above.
Starlight, star bright,
how I wish that I could have you here with me tonight.
Loving you, you loving me
instead I’m all alone reflecting on a memory.

CH
Reflecting on a memory
of when there was just you and me
with plans to spend our lives through eternity
But as fate would have it we weren't meant to be.
Reflecting on a memory
of how deep in love we used to be.
Togetherness was not our destiny
now all I have left is a memory.

VS 2
The way you kissed my lips made my passion flow.
Round and round up and down here we go.
The syncopated rhythms of two hearts that beat;
ah, so sweet.
The thought of you still takes my breath away
and I’m missing you more each and every day.
maybe one day our paths will meet
but for now I’m left reflecting on a memory.

CH
Reflecting on a memory
of when there was just you and me
with plans to spend our lives till eternity
But as fate would have it we weren't meant to be.
Reflecting on a memory
of how deep in love we used to be.
togetherness was not our destiny
now all I have left is a memory.
BR

Reflecting
on a memory
of you
of me
and how deep in love
we used to be
all that’s left
of us is just
this memory

True Love

Lay With Me

Written By: Morgan E Balenton

Verse 1
Hello, tell me how was your day
Sit down, relax and let me rub your feet
Dinner is ready; water is running in the tub
Let me wash your back and shower you with love
As you

Chorus
Lay with me
Till the sun shines in the east and the moon now sleeps
Lay, lay, lay, lay with me
Tonight we take it to a higher level of ecstasy

Verse 2
You touch me, so tender, so sweet
When you kiss me my body quivers and starts to shake
I’m ready for you to fill me with you love
Take me to a place in the heavens up above
As you

Chorus
Lay with me
Till the sun shines in the east and the moon now sleeps
Lay, lay, lay, lay with me
Tonight we take it to a higher level of ecstasy

Break
Lay with me
Come now and lay with me

Bridge
Orchestrated like a symphony
Moving in perfect rhythm to a syncopated beat
Flowing to the harmony of loves melody
Take control now lover and conduct me

I’m gonna play ya like an instrument
With emanating sounds that are heaven sent
Fingers running cross your body like piano keys
Till you blow like a trumpet in the key of E

Chorus (repeat)

Outro:
It’s morning and I've awaken from my dream…
