"Morning Show - Papershaker"

Morning Show is a new collaboration between three veterans of the BC music scene, featuring former members of the Archers, Bed of Stars, and Good for Grapes.

Their debut single "Papershaker" is a subtle, effectively crafted pop-tune that doesn't stray too far from that comfortable pocket of indie rock well-worn by bands like Death Cab For Cutie and Pinback. However, they show off a mastery that doesn't feel like a rip off, but reminds us what we loved about the sound in the first place.

Their debut EP, Run Dry, was produced by Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, The New Pornographers, Gold & Youth) and is slated to be released later this year or early next year. For more, check out their site or head over to their SoundCloud where you can get a free download. - Indie Shuffle

"Underline – Morning Show"

I’m not sure what the weather is like where you are, but lately it’s been gray, rainy, and mellow here in Austin. Nothing pairs better with thunderstorms and coffee than some downtempo indie music; reverb heavy guitar chords, a soft drum beat, and some vibey folk vocals pair with my mood perfectly this morning. Morning Show is a Canadian trio that just recently released their debut EP Prom Theme. Dramatic drops aren’t something I’m used to hearing in this kind of music, but they somehow retain a melancholy vibe despite their passion for theatrics in their music. The song showcases some creative word play and metaphors, some refreshing drum workings, and some very innovative guitar progressions — everybody brings their own unique style to the group, and together they have a surprisingly coherent sound. Cop the free download, if you like what you hear you can buy their project on Bandcamp, and of course following them on twitter and soundcloud is always a lovely way of showing your support. - University Hype

"Morning Show "Underline""

West Coast collective Morning Show brings together members of the Archers, Tough Lovers and Good for Grapes, and the Vancouver- and Victoria-based musicians are ready to reveal their new EP Prom Theme this month. Before it arrives, though, Exclaim! has got the exclusive premiere of their new single "Underline."

The upcoming EP was tracked with Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, New Pornographers) and aims to capture the band's "excitement, adventurism, and collective exhale that comes with a new beginning." That eagerness and rejuvenation comes across on "Underline," which is propelled by intricate rhythm patterns beneath buoyant vocals and jangly guitars. - Exclaim!

"WORLD PREMIERE: Morning Show – Prom Theme EP"

Morning Show is an alternative rock trio from Victoria, British Columbia, formed in 2013. The band’s debut single “Papershaker” was released in October of 2014, and was met with a pretty warm reception amongst the few whose ears it touched. The band has a sound that’s obviously influenced by the more modern side of the alternative and indie rock spectrum, while still offering a distinctly lighthearted vibe.

With the band’s debut EP Prom Theme, they’re showing themselves to be a local band to watch out for, with an alternative rock sound and dynamic truly deserving of that genre tag. If you’re down with bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Best Coast and Cults, check out Morning Show‘s latest EP. - North West Music Scene

"Morning Show - Underline"

Morning Show made a pretty good splash with their debut single "Papershaker" a few months back, and have recently released their first EP, a smooth collection of moody, guitar driven indie rock tunes.

"Underline" is a standout, which really grew on me after a few listens. It shows off lead singer Ethan Caleb's mature songwriting and chorus hooks with restrained but masterful production. - Indie Shuffle

"Premiere: Morning Show – “Prom Theme”"

It’s no secret that British Columbia’s music scene is infinitely fertile, so it’s no surprise that Morning Show is the result of current and former members of several bands. Archers, Tough Lovers and Good For Grapes all have a part in this pop-rock band, and they’re getting ready to make a splash with their debut EP, Prom Theme, out May 5.

But before then, Grayowl Point is proud to bring you a stream of the EP for your listening pleasure.

Starting with the multifaceted “Underline,” the EP journeys through warm pop-rock with plenty of crescendos along the way. “I’m Listening” begins like a lullaby before building in volume, while “Papershaker” combines piano, swirling synths and bass for the catchiest song on them all.

“Run Dry” goes a little more sombre, though with a big blast of indie-rock, and “I Want” brings the EP to a close on a softer note with some excellent, sophisticated percussion and gentle strums of guitar. - Gray Owl Point

"CHILL MONDAY VIBES FROM MORNING SHOW"

Mondays are sometimes meant to be taken slow, so I’ve got a track for you today from Morning Show, a Vancouver/Victoria trio who makes indie rock a-la Death Cab For Cutie. This song “Underline” is a nice blend of soft and quiet and the band uses this up and down nature of the song to really rope you in. There’s a nice bit of piano that starts the track off, and then the vocals chime in with just the right amount of rasp and clarity to them. Then when they launch in full tilt you get some distorted guitar and bombastic percussion all underlined with a bit of electronic sounds. Morning Show have a new EP out called Prom Theme, on which you’ll find this fine track and four others and you can find that here. - Austin Town Hall

"MORNING SHOW RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE, LYRIC VIDEO"

Morning Show have released a lyric video for their debut single, “Papershaker.” With its uptempo indie rock sensibilities and loopy rhythms, the track accentuates a promising career for the young trio. - The Permanent Rain press

"Morning Show "Underline""

Morning Show is a trio from Canada. The band formed in early 2013, but they’ve only just caught my attention with a moody song named Underline, the second single off their recent debut EP, Prom Theme. Brooding, ruminative, Local Natives evoking vocals amble along through the song’s beautiful, captivating arrangement, one that builds to San Fermin like orchestral lushness at the most breathtaking moments. Underline is the second single from Morning Show’s debut EP, Prom Theme. - I Heart Moosiq

Bio

Morning Show is an alternative rock trio based out of Vancouver and Victoria BC, formed in 2013 by singer/guitarist Ethan Caleb (The Archers), and multi-instrumentalists Ryan Stephenson (Tough Lovers) and Blair Hansen (ex-Good for Grapes). They offer a fresh and honest approach to alt-rock, citing influences such as The National, Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco. After writing relentlessly and fine-tuning their sound over the two years following their incarnation, they released their debut EP “Prom Theme”recorded with Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, The New Pornographers), in May of 2015.

Being separated by a body of water has forced Morning Show to develop their own unorthodox method of songwriting. Convening monthly for one weekend in barns, basements, and living rooms around Victoria and Vancouver, the members initially attempted to bring individual ideas to the creative space and piece them together there. After throwing out song after song, they eventually realized their best and most authentic sounds came from entering the environment as three blank slates, and creating something that had an equal part of each member in it. The five songs on the “Prom Theme” EP are a documentation of the initial frustration of a long distance working-relationship and the eventual freedom gained by developing a new process of creating music; free from any stigmas or constraining methods they had relied upon before.

Recently, the band has ventured outside of their comfort zone by teaming up with filmmaker Ingrid Veninger to perform an all-original live score for her film “He Hated Pigeons” at film festivals around British Columbia. 2016 finds Morning Show developing their first full-length record and preparing to take “Prom Theme” on the road across Western Canada.
