Morningside Fats are led by songwriter, vocalist, guitarist Paul D Renton.
We do our best to continue to develop our set with new original tunes complimented by tasty and interesting blues covers.
Like most blues acts our true roots are with those awesome classic cuts from the middle of the last century. It's a cliche for a reason and Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers, Buddy Guy and their ilk were simply the best.
Our approach to blues is also heavily influenced by the more modern sounds of guitarists like Jimmy Vaughan, Junior Watson, Charlie Baty, Igor Prado, Kid Ramos and co.
Simple, fun, interesting, skillful, and soulful.
Morningside Fats got together to bring some fun to what sometimes can seem like a very serious genre. Not that we don't have the utmost respect for the integrity of the blues that we are influenced by. All music, and that includes the blues, ain't nothin' unless your audience is dancing and having fun. It ain't nothin' unless there are real SONGS played with conviction. Longwinded guitar led rock jams are definetly NOT on our agenda. Just good music, good times, done good.
We have developed our set via residencies at the Jubilee and Hamilton Hotels, trips interstate and festival gigs.
Stephen Robin and Shelley Osland provide the most solid rhythm section around and that is the perfect vehicle for Paul Renton to deliver his original songs and quirky guitar solos.
