Biography

Mosquito Fleet

IT IS LATE SPRING OF 1940. Turbulence and chaos of the Second World War overwhelm the Allied troops trapped on the beaches of the English Channel in Dunkirk, France. Demise seems inevitable as the Luftwaffe looms overhead and the German infantry closes in. There is no way out.

However, for roughly a week’s time, a fog fills the air preventing the German fighter planes’ vision of the sea. The notoriously violent English Channel grows still offering conditions calm enough to sail on, even for a modest sailboat. The tranquility of the sea is pregnant with expectation.

During this time of unprecedented conditions, an assembled fleet of nearly a thousand civilian boats depart from British soil. They rescue hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers from their imminent death. Many of these men later return victoriously to the French coastline on D-Day. The impossible heroism of these insignificant vessels of deliverance earned a legacy that would remain for years to come; they are called the “mosquito fleet.”

Lyrics

Via Salutis

Written By: Mosquito Fleet

Everyone's a little lost
There's a line we always cross
To gain we must break someone's trust
To live, to learn, to die

And everyone's alright until
They reach the city 'top the hill
Where gloom and greed and pride prevail
What's wrong is now all right

What if I'm found an honest man?
'Cause honestly I've got no friends
But I've got my lines and I stick to them
Where did I go wrong?

What if I'm found a broken man?
'Cause honestly I've sinned again
But I've got my lines and I stick to them
Where did I go wrong?

The trees inhale the air we breathe
Spit it back like guilty thieves
Into my lungs like burning leaves
Heaven's not this high

And every gram of oxygen
That pierces to my lungs of sin
Will someday enter yours again
Matchless irony

What if I'm found an honest man?
'Cause honestly I've got no friends
But I've got my lines and I stick to them
Where did I go wrong?

What if I'm found a broken man?
'Cause honestly I've sinned again
But I've got my lines and I stick to them
Where did I go wrong?

Victories are always taught
As brave and valiantly fought
When schemes of shameful nature wrought
Destruction and demise

Honesty's a foreign thought
Escaping every fight that's fought
To be defeated's never taught
As valuable, it's vain

Will the fighting ever stop?
Where the hell did I go wrong?
To be defeated's never taught
As valuable, it's vain

Honesty's a foreign thought
Escaping every fight that's fought
To be defeated's never taught
As valuable, it's vain

Times Are Changing

Written By: Mosquito Fleet

Times are changing
Everybody's waking up
To the things they wanna change
Oh to be, oh to be the better man
Oh to change just as fast as you can

Hearts are breaking
Everybody's making up
For the things they didn't mean
Mistakes, mistakes are all that's left
Mistakes, put you back up on my shelf

And I can't let go of what's holding on to me
This is just for show 'cause you don't wanna see who I am
Sure as hell not the better man
Sure as hell not the better man

Lives are changing
Everybody's waving hands
In the air and they're singing songs of praise
But it feels so dead to me
Could it be that I just don't believe?

And I can't let go of what's holding on to me
This is just for show 'cause you don't wanna see who I am
Sure as hell not the better man
Sure as hell not the better man

I am naked
And I'm trying but I just can't make it
Oh, Jesus I'm doing all I can
I'm just a man

And He said, "Child, I don't remember what you've done
Child, I don't remember the things you're dying from
Child, I don't remember what you've done
Child, I don't remember"

And I can't let go of what's holding on to me
This is just for show 'cause you don't wanna see who I am
Sure as hell not the better man (oh, no I'm not)
Sure as hell not the better man

Back And Forth

Written By: Mosquito Fleet

Back and forth we sway like branches
One step forward, three steps back
Progress is so overrated
Three times worse it's quick regress

Back and forth we move like dancers
Side to side and front to back
Movement is so overrated
Three times worse we're lost in step

If I said what I wanted to say
Would you listen or throw it away?

Low beneath a sea of depression
I can't see the surface yet
I am crying out to Jesus
Listen but I don't hear shit

If I said what I wanted to say
Would you listen or throw it away?
If I said what I wanted to say
Would you listen or throw it away?
(Sure as hell not the better man)
(Sure as hell not the better man)
(What if I'm found an honest man?)
('Cause honestly I've got no friends)
(But I've got my lines and I stick to them)
(Where did I go wrong?)

Back and forth we sway like branches
Back and forth we move like dancers
Back and forth we sway like branches
Back and forth we move like dancers

If I said what I wanted to say
Would you listen or throw it away?
