"Interview With Mo"

Taking a skewed sideways view of the world through NHS style glasses, Coolock MC, Mo-T comes to the hiphop library, grabs the rule book, tears it to shreds and pisses all over it. With the ever evolving and ever progressing production talents of Disfunktional's Night (Paul to his mum) providing the slicky constructed beats, for Mo, no idea is too out there, no subject too taboo and there's no sample that can't be mangled and warped to fit the format. Check out the sublime "Wake Up and Smell the Bollix" and "Reaping the Benefits" EPs for any proof that's needed. Give Mo a mic and he'll hit you with a free flowing chatter from the deeply dense to the weirdly ridiculous. Hear him expound on subjects from the virtues of Roberto Baggio to his quest for little rashers,dj_mo_t.jpg
dreams of Transformers to a step by step guide to what will no doubt be the next Macarena, the Turkey Trot.

Himself and Paul are putting together an album as we speak and first indications are that it's heading in a darker grimier direction than previous output and also sees Mo-T showcase his not unsubstantial singing prowess, to these ears he sounds halfway between Ozzy and Usher.
Come with us now and seek a peek into the world of Mo-T.

So Mo, how's the head? and what's going on in it at the moment?
Me head's in a good way. At the moment I've got a lust for life, by day I'm living the dream of the common man, by night I'm trying to make an album!

How's work on the album progressing, when can we expect to see it gracing our stereo decks?
It's getting there, We're taking our time but hopefully it will be out early next year. It's shaping up very well but we're still experimenting with different sounds and styles plus my musical mood changes all the time. One thing I can say is that it will be the greatest album of all time.

The new material I've heard is more brooding and darker than previous stuff, are we witnessing the beginning of MOody-T?

There will be a couple of accesible poptastic tunes thrown in but I'd magine the end product will be dark, moody and generally demented. We ever know what type of track we're going to make but I write all the time and Paul's always working on new stuff and when we put them together its usually fairly decent!

In the past we've always paid homage to great music. Alongside Kate Bush, we've also tampered with Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Prodigy, RJD2, Gwen Stefani, M83 and Of Montreal.

You cite Baggio as one of your heroes, who else is stored in the MO-T closet of admiration?

My heroes are as follows (in no particular order): Baggio of course, Michael Schumacher, Michael Jackson, Nasty Nick, Mike Baldwin RIP, Morrissey, me Da, Ross Kemp, Jesus, Judas, Phil Neville, Mr.Bean, Dunphy, the Elephant Man, Princess Di, Tony The Toblerone Donnelly, Turkey George and John Virgo. But then again we're all heroes!

You're well in with the Disfunktional guys, Tell me a secret about them?

Well Carnie wets the bed, Paul was born without a star sign, Gar can't cycle a bike, Shep's alright though. Oh and I hate them all, bar Shep.

Cliched question I know but fantasy band line up?

Me, Hall and Oates, Jake from California Dreams and some Puerto Rican guy. We would just do covers of Bobby and Whitney or Ike and Tina in a progressive kinda house kinda alt-country style with a splash of nu-jazz. kinda like if Bryan Adams did drugs!

"Who is mo-t?"

Where do you start with Mo-T? It’s a tad confusing to say the least; I suppose the first port of call would be to consider Mo, the bespectacled rapper, singer, crooner, front man and heir apparent to the throne of the non sequitur. Take a dollop of Morrissey’s obtuse world view, sling in a portion Burroughs’s cut n paste attitude and fold in a hefty dose of Milligan’s sense of the absurd, just to keep things bubbling nicely, and then sprinkle a pinch of passion of Shankly over the top and you might be somewhere in the region of how his mind works. But then again, just as you think you’re getting close, he packs up his magic bag of rhymes and is gone, leaving you choking on his surreal space dust.

But Mo is not just Mo-T, Mo-T is also Paul, producer extraordinaire and genre hopping wunderkind and his skills behind the boards - first honed as part of Irish hip hop giants, Disfunktional – are just getting better and better, and probably the real star of the group. With Mo-T we find him displaying an innate flair for percussion and rhythm, an impeccable ear for melody and a continuously jaw dropping talent for just being able to wedge and carouse vastly differing elements together like they were cosy bedfellows all along.."
