"Steve Albini calls Motherfucker "Stimulating and Energetic" *click for video*"

"There is another band that I found recently that I really like. It's a band called Motherfucker. They're just a straight forward rock band, but I find them really stimulating. They're just a very energetic band. I like their attitude. I like their presentation and I've been listening to them kind of a lot lately." -Steve Albini of Electrical Audio - from Mix With The Masters Q&A #23

"Flagpole's Top 10 Albums of 2014"

Tae Kwon Do was a needed head-punch to local hard rock in 2014, a breath of fresh air in the midst of a machismo smog. Minimal vocals, Shellac-inspired riffs and driving percussion formed the foundation, but there was an unexplainable spark that pushed Motherfucker above their peers. Featuring catchy, Queens of the Stone Age-esque singles, extended instrumental interludes and a six-minute jam of a title track, Tae Kwon Do contains an entire discography’s worth of growth and experimentation in a 14-minute package. "Motherfucker: Tae Kwon Do EP"

I'm not typically prone to making prophetic statements, but I'm inclined to say that Motherfucker's debut EP, Tae Kwon Do, will stand among the best Athens-related releases of 2014 at year's end. I can think of no other band in town that delivers stoner-rock riffs with this much force and intensity. The recording is appropriately titled; the lion's share of it is a sonic kick-and-punch-combo right to the listener's viscera.

"Dot. Dot. Dot." is far and away the most reverent invocation of Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age-inspired rock to emanate from the South in quite a while. There isn't much in the way of soloing (or singing—the track is instrumental) to note, but Mandy Branch's clockwork bassline and Erica Strout's sharp guitar work are outstanding. Drummer Erika Rickson pounds it out to round it out, making the track worth pausing your reading of this review to give it a listen.

The title track, the EP's finale, is something of a post-punk version of "Rock Lobster"; the lyrics swirl around a driving riff that absolutely mesmerizes. That analogy doesn't do the song justice, but if you are at all taken by repetitive rhythms that captivate, it will be an object of infatuation for quite some time.

The only hang-up I have with Motherfucker's EP is that there isn't nearly enough of it. Perhaps that's deliberate; I can’t emphasize enough that there is not a bad track to be found here. If these ladies continue to release material, my recommendation is to be prepared. If you haven't heard them yet, you're about to have your ass kicked. 4 out of 5. - Flagpole Magazine

"Top 5 Under the Radar Bands"

The name is not a put-on; these women are the real deal. A power trio out of Athens, Ga., that is the offshoot of another Athens band, the Incendiaries, Motherfucker blew me and everyone else away on the chilly Southern November night. As one can see in still frame, drummer Erika Rickson is an explosive force who plays perfectly with guitarist Erica Strout and bassist Mandy Branch. Only in existence since July, they are working on their debut EP, which will no doubt be pure rock-infested joy. - The Key

Bio

The female noise rock explosion that would come to be known as Motherfucker formed with the intention of playing a single show in their hometown of Athens, GA.

Athens rock veterans Erica Strout and Erika Rickson were determined to play their favorite local festival despite the recent breakup of their band Incendiaries.

They recruited their old bassist, Mandy Branch, and frantically set out to write "punch-in-the-air" rock with only one month to prepare.

They emerged with Strout delivering washed out, violent lyrics over a riff heavy pummel a la QOTSA and The Jesus Lizard.

The response had them instantly overbooked and rushing into the studio to record an EP named for their nearly seven minute psych punk song, Tae Kwon Do.

The success of the EP led them to tour and open for national artists like HUM, The Obits, Parquet Courts, Ex Hex, and most recently Mastodon  .

Less than a year after their first show, Motherfucker signed with Sick Room Records to issue their debut album, Confetti, to be released in summer of 2015.
