Bio

Four piece band consisting of... Francess Clinton (tiny tears) – Vocals /lyrics /melodies/ arranging. Alex Hillman (The H man) - Guitar/ composer /arranger /lyrics. Jake Bloor (Mothers Hat wear) - Bass. Josh Knight (Born again Christian) - Drums... "Mothers Country" formed at S-O-T College on the Access To Music course where all members recognised the connections we had as musicians through jam's! Although our influences and tastes vary as individuals, we all realised that collectively we had something special and set to work on forming the group we have to date. Originally Francess and Alex had been working/ gigging together as a duo and song writing partnership for over a year but knew that turning the vocal/guitar collaborations into a full band was naturally the next step. I would like to add that the real reason we needed to form our band was the fact there is only 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and the constant arm wrestling tradition we had to partake in to find who wrote the next song was becoming monotonous and was testing friendship (former heavy weight boxing champion Alex was no match for old blue eyes herself.. Frank)... We needed a referee :) enter Josh... Ha-ha... Joshua Knight is a 19 year old drummer who was born and bred in Leek; Josh has played for nearly 4 years and has over 300 hundreds gigs under his belt so far. Heavily influenced by Buddy Rich, Brian Downy and Jose Pasillas, he has a range of styles and genres he can adapt to and is a joy to play alongside. Josh is very versatile and profession and is the ideal drummer for our band! Josh will always be found come rain or shine sporting one of his trademark woolly jumpers :) Jake Bloor on Bass is the man with the riffs :) anything that Fran and Alex come up with he can find the perfect lines to glue everything together.. Another very versatile musician, who can listen to any style of music and enjoy it. Jake is heavily influenced by Les Claypool, he loves listening to The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pink Floyd. He is the cool, calm and collective member of the group and definitely has the best sense of style... (See photos!)
Alex Hillman is a grade 8 guitarist who comes from Bidulph; he is unbelievably talented when it comes to playing and performing. Alex and Fran started their partnership over a year and a half ago and have a catalogue of material they have composed. His influences come from John Lennon, The Beatles, Cream, Guthrie Govan, too many to mention here! Alex is extremely stylistic and can adapt his playing to any genre that is given to him. He has immense stage presence and he is forever the perfectionist, he also complements Fran’s vocals with his style. His talents don’t end with his capabilities on his instrument, he is the composer and arranger of all the music that Mothers Country plays, the band would be nothing without him ? he is a true star… Francess Clinton is the lead vocalist of the band amongst other things ? Fran has been singing and gigging for over 14 years; originally from Liverpool she met Alex whilst studying at ATM centre. With a wealth of experience and knowledge of the industry she is the organiser of the boys! Fran has a vast array of styles and genres that she has covered over the years but Folk and Country is where she feels it is at now for her and the band, Fran had worked as a session singer for many artists along with working on BBC Radio Merseyside as a session vocalist for jingles. She has supported bands such as "Space" working as on the 24 hour charity event for BBC Music live in 2000, she helped rase money for charity by performing alongside other musicians for a whole day and night :) Having the pleasure of working with Robbie Williams Drummer Chris!! She has supported Atomic Kitten, Cast amoungst many other bands. She has done countless peformances and won the Orange Music Experience Award in 2003. Having all this expereinece of the business she knows how important the whole package is!!! Fran is a very determined and strong person who strives to do the best she possibly can every time she performs. … One of the high points for her is working alongside the BBC for the Big Screen Events and had a hand in organising the event alongside David Fishel. The dream now for Mothers Country is to play at all the main festivals this summer and to do the ATOM Live Tour, we all feel that this an opportunity that would benefit them as a group and help them move forward in the industry by doing what do love best……. Sharing their music with people who want to hear it xxxx
