Biography

New York based band Motion Picture is a power-pop foursome that showcases soaring guitar hooks, pounding drums, laconic vocals, and sweet harmonies. Best described as a cross between Blur and Elvis Costello with the vigor and drive of the Pixies, Motion Picture charms audiences with its schizophrenic-to-epic songwriting while pumping out a wall of guitars sound.

Motion Picture emerged from New York in 2004 with their debut album Anhedonia in hand, and, shortly after, was accepted to perform at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas as part of the New York International Music Festival showcase. Following the festival, the band landed a show at the prestigious Knitting Factory in LA (almost sharing the bill with Beck who played there a couple days earlier), while Anhedonia began charting on college radio stations around the country (resting on various charts next to the likes of Modest Mouse and The Kicks).

After a year of supporting the record, Motion Picture took time off to rehearse and record new songs, which they are currently performing on the New York City circuit. In addition, they have almost completed Analog Down, their follow up EP to Anhedonia. The EP is an ambitious collection of songs recorded in Michael’s apartment on Logic 6, with everything running through a Rodes K2 mic (except the drums). The record was produced by the band and engineered by Michael, with a release date of December 2005.

Highlights:

Debut album Anhedonia charted on college radio stations WUMM, WUCR, WXIN, WIIT, KBTL, and WHRW, while getting heavy spins on many others.

Recently was featured artist on Say Radio Network’s “Indie Spotlight.”

Performed with bands such as Nico Vega (Actor Michael Pena’s band), Electric Eel Shock, Jonny Lives, This Blue Holiday, and Brother Love.

Performed at The Palms Casino as part of the NY International Music Festival.

Lyrics

Until it Turns You Around

Written By: Michael Morgan

The way you close your eyes it looks so sad yeah
The way you walk away man it looks so bad

Until you see it my way, I keep on wondering why
Until you turn around I keep on waving goodbye

CHORUS
Until it turns you around
Baby

My eyes they surf the crowd now you don’t come around yeah
There’s a song that fits this situation, strikes a chord straight to elation

Arms can wrap around you, and remind you of what’s best
Arms can wrap around you, and choke your heart right in your chest

I wanna turn it up

CHORUS

Here Comes The Good Times

Written By: Michael Morgan

I pulled up to the window of a local bank
In a car much smaller than an army tank
As I took all of my money in my hand I felt forgiven

I guess I've spent the past years just making due
Working with me I'd work with you
As the kick drum kicks in a 4-piece band we make a living

Here come the good times
With your hands on the wheel
Out with all your old friends
Starting up a new deal

I'm a little older than I was before
Don't romanticize much about it anymore
Now I'm heading out east with a friend
I guess that's living

As I touched back down in a different land
I put down all my money on a black jack hand
Witness this and I'll pretend
We're forgiven

Here come the good times
With your hands on the wheel
Out with all your old friends
Starting up a new deal
It's good to hold on, it's good to let go, it's good that I know what nobody knows

Guess it was a good year to say goodbye
A father meets his son and then he cries
I came a long way to say I'm sorry

Here come the good times
Keep your hands on the wheel
Out with all your old friends
Starting up a new deal
It's good to hold on, it's good to let go, it's good that I know what nobody knows

You are forgiven

A Blur Behind You

Written By: Michael Morgan

A good friend of mine, he saw me in a line, waiting for a show to start
We found a place to hide then we snuck our way inside
Straight past the V.I.P.s

But when I turned away, you found the stage; I spent the same time slipping away

A Blur
Whoa a blur
I'm just a blur behind you
No one here can tell you
I'm just a blur behind you

We leaned on the car near the stoop behind the bar; we covered up our drinks with bags

The kids that we were they're nothing but a blur, like Gallaghers we're brothers now

When I'm a singing out, shout at the crowd, these are the only words that are falling right out.

A Blur
Whoa a blur
I'm just a blur behind you
No one here can tell you
I'm just a blur behind you

Yeah, 2 kids side by side, one by one when they arrived, singing out as loud as they can

And drifting through the years, I come to what I fear: That's your guitar

Hey anyway, you know what they say, I spent the same time slipping away

A Blur
Whoa a blur
I'm just a blur behind you
No one here can tell you
I'm just a blur behind you
Yeah, I'm just a blur
