Bio

Motive Makes a Man is the materialized creative process of Multi-instrumentalist Ace Waters. Ace has been playing music all of his life. He plays all of the music on Motive Makes a Man albums including guitars, piano, hand drums, bass (both electric and upright), saxophone, mandolin, banjo and many different analog synths.

His music started as a folk side project that allowed him to write with no restrictions and eventually became his full time focus. He released "Peculiar Praises for Troubling Times" in 2009 more as a personal project than anything else. In 2010 Ace's son, Mark Waters was born and Ace started on a path to making his second album "Heavy Boots". Half way through the year of work, Ace got sick and recorded "Meteorologica" as a personal project to make some instrumental music inspired by weather while he was recovering. After over a year of writing, recording, mixing and mastering Ace finished his double album "Heavy Boots" inspired directly by his first year as a father. The songs deal with deep issues of life and death.

It was the success of his kickstarter to fund the replication of "Heavy Boots" that made Ace start to take his music more seriously as a career. He started to play shows and got a small ensemble together. Things came to a halt when Ace and his family moved to Portland, OR. After releasing a second ambient album, inspired by his move to the northwest called "Cascadia" he started to learn about the wonderful world of electronic music. This inspired what he calls "Electro-Folk". It combines the intimacy and storytelling nature of folk music with the unique sounds of analog synths. He worked hard for six months to create his third album, "Through a Drop, Refracted". Ace made sure to make this album the most professional sounding release yet. The process marked Aces desire and first steps to making his music his full time project.

He believes that art is extremely important and works very hard to keep integrity in every note he plays.

Recently, he has been releasing weekly you tube videos to show off the many different aspects to his art. They are available at his youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/acewatersthe3rd) that he updates every wednesday with all sorts of cool covers, electronic live songs, looped ambient guitar work, and more!

He lives in Portland with his wife and son and is looking for any available places to showcase his art.
