Bio
The Motor City Jazz Octet draws its members from the very best professional musicians in Detroit. The artists in the band are from such prestigious institutions as the Fox Theatre Orchestra, the Fisher Theatre Orchestra, and symphonies of the area. Some are former Motown performers and/or professors at major Michigan Universities. The current membership is Steve Wood (Sax and Clarinet), Dave Jennings (Trumpet), Mike Rumbell (Trombone), Mark Berger (Bari, Alto Sax), Gary Schunk (Piano), Ron English (Guitar), Don Lewandowski (Bass), and led by Joe Syrian (Drums).
They have recently performed at The Detroit Institute of Art, Bakers Keyboard Lounge, Cliff Bell's, The Detroit Public Library, The Rooster Tail, The Michigan Jazz Festival, and Wayne State University. The Motor City Jazz Octet currently performs most Sundays at Club Bart in Ferndale.
