At the turn of the century, two young men crawled from beneath the rubble of a crumbling empire and looked out amongst the chaotic wastelands, which still remained. Something had to be done, opinions needed to be voiced, so these two men formed a band, and dubbed their creation Mourning Starr.
Mourning Starr has been a part of the Portland Music scene for a little over half a decade. Derek (Guitar and Vocals) and Nathan Scott (Drums) formed Mourning Starr in 1999. They went through bassist after bassist, weeding out the rotten, insufficient, non-dedicated, and weak hearted, until one fateful day they found their lost brother. Mathew Breece (Bass) was recruited for the battle against forces unknown, and joined the band in early 2004.
The music, which these three men produce, has been compared to such bands as Tool, Nirvana, and System of a Down. With overdriven guitar lines, hard-hitting drum beats, melodic wailing, and honorable bass lines, Mourning Starr belts out their messages with pure, enthusiastic energy.
Now, they roam from bar to bar, battle to battle, venue to venue speaking out against those who deny the truth.
As well as playing many high schools¡¦ shows in their early days, they have been seen performing at various venues, such as The Loveland, The New Paris Theatre, Clifford¡¦s Bar, The Solid State, Hawthorne Theatre, The Twilight Room, and The Catwalk. They were victorious at a battle of the bands in 2004; presented by Sugarlight Productions and hosted at The Meow Meow.
Mourning Starr is now in the process of creating their first full-length album, due out the summer of 2006. As of now, they do have some songs posted at www.myspace.com/mourningstarr5.
Mourning Starr is a very dedicated band chock-full of sheer stamina and vigilance. They have spent an abundance of time crafting their messages and theories. They are ready to speak out and tell the world what it needs to hear. Support the revolution
