Bio

Movieland formed in the summer of 2011 in Vancouver, Canada. This buddy-comedy-punk quartet takes life and music very seriously, and has been deemed "the most hanging-outest band in rock & roll." With a fuzz-pop sound, and influences ranging from the Breeders, to Hole, to the Strokes, their songs have been described as a blend of "fiery punk and sock hop melodicism." Trading lead songwriting duties, this unexpected mash-up of members from Thee Ahs, Aunts & Uncles, Kidnap Kids and Narwhal maintain a diverse sound, albeit one that is decidedly "Movieland."

They recorded a 7-song EP with Jay Arner, which was released as a split tape with PUPS on Green Burrito Records in March of 2013. One song was featured as the first track on the CiTR/Mint Records’ Pop Alliance 3, also released in 2013. Movieland will be recording over the summer and will release a 7” later in the year.

So far, Movieland has shared the stage with the likes of Gothic Tropic, Apollo Ghosts, Slam Dunk, Jay Arner, Renny Wilson, PUPS, Freak Heat Waves, Love Cuts, Fake Tears, and Peace, among many other local talented acts. They have played at Music Waste Festival, Shout Back Festival, and the CiTR/Mint Records’ Pop Alliance release show, which also serves as CiTR’s annual Fundrive.

Friends and strangers alike have nice things to say about them! Check it:

“These songs are cute and occasionally silly, but thoroughly charming” - The Tyee, April 2013.

“Great local Vancouver act who people need to hear” - Japandroids, on CBC Music, June 2012.

“Friends of ours who put out great cuts” - Adrian Teacher (Apollo Ghosts), in earshot!, August 2012.
