"Moyeen Single Review"

Moyeen is a brand new artist who has never been heard anywhere on record before. She currently resides in Canada and has been into music for a while. Now she is ready to step out publicly with her material. Read below why it took her so long….

“She always knew she wanted to sing but learned at an early age that to be “successful” she’d have to follow the traditional path of being either a medical doctor, lawyer, accountant, architect, or engineer. So it was no surprise when an acquaintance, who noticed her passion for music, told her “olodo lon korin “! Which means “only the unintelligent sing!”. Although discouraged, Moyeen continued belting notes (in private) and began writing her own material.” - NotJustOk.com

Bio

Why is there a mirror in her picture u might ask . We'll have you
ever wondered what it was like to sing with a hairbrush into a standing fan, as opposed to singing to thousands of fans? Moyeen (pronounced Mow-yeen) knows all about that! As a child, this talented songstress fell in love with music and the arts and would spend hours learning lyrics and performing right in front of her largest audience: her own Reflection in the Mirror. She remembers,

"As a kid, I sang into every hairbrush and if ever I found an enclosure generous with echoes; it was a free concert for all
unsuspecting ears. I’d sing till I was breathless!!! "

Multi-talented singer- songwriter, Moyeen has an eclectic mix of musical influences. Think of her as a tall glass of Sade shaken with Imoghen Heap; add a shot of Bob Marley infuse Fela, then sprinkle some Shirely Bassey and top it off with spunky pro-femme attitude. Yes! we said it, attitude, be ye not deceived by the cutesy curly coiffure . Moyeen’s voice texture has an unconventional hint contemporary jazziness that keeps you wanting more of her up-tempo songs. Its no surprise that each listener comes up with a new hybrid of what this songstress sounds like. For now, she opts to be a non-genred musician, as she follows her creative juices without genre-inhibitions. So when asked about her genre she says:

“You know, if my music had nationalities
then my album would be the United Nations. So, its really up to the listeners”

Moyeen, the fourth out of five kids was raised in a traditional Nigerian family where family values and education were cemented in since birth. It was the norm that “success” meant she’d have to be either a medical doctor, lawyer, accountant, architect, or engineer. So upon hearing her plans to be a singer an NGSN** (No Good Nay Sayer) called her unintelligent and lazy (ouch)! Though discouraged, this resilient rebel forged ahead towards her dreams. She wrote “Follow my Dreams” based on this experience and hopes to inspire people to do same! She admits:

"Of course I cried but I channeled my emotions into the song “Follow My Dreams”. I wasn’t letting anyone kill my dreams without a fight!”

After moving to peachy Georgia, she sang and wrote in One Drop a reggae-rock band, who coined the local hit “We All Want to be Free”. Despite their success, the band’s momentum came to a halt when members, pursued different career paths. She says:

"Breaking up was like an amputation. I needed a sedative so I discovered Whiskey,My faithful guitar, who helped me forget all my sorrows”

Despite the setback, Moyeen went to college and continued writing and performing mostly with gypsy bands. She loved performances, but paid for it in with multiple shots of espresso and heavy eyelids at 8am classes. Nevertheless, her passion and drive for music made it all worthwhile. Moyeen's energy has been described as contagious; her presence, engaging and her personality delightfully refreshing! She says,

“Personality wise, I’m a playful free-spirit and I can be serious- minded but I don’t take myself too seriously. See in life , you gotta take it easy : you'll see that sprinkled all over my music”.

She is currently working on promoting her debut album. Her singles "Follow My Dreams”, and “Mr.Aristo” are already getting radio play and rave reviews. For more access to Moyeen, and to hear exclusive tracks, be sure to subscribe to the mailing list and join her social circle.
