MQ Murphy

The folk music scene of the 60's - that's the reason that MQ bought his first guitar from a pawnshop on Market Street in Philadelphia in 1964. The British Invasion sent him back to the pawnshop for an electric guitar.
He started playing in rock bands during high school and college. MQ left college with a Fine Arts degree then took a long detour through semi-gainful employment in various jobs, settling in with construction work despite the dangers it presents for a guitarist's fingers.
With all of his fingers mostly intact, MQ resolved a few years ago to combine his life-long love of music with a 'head full of ideas' (thank you, Mr. Dylan) and actually start writing songs. He tries just about every day with a very sharp pencil.
MQ is a big fan of wit, melody and rhythm - he cites John Gorka, John Prine, Bruce Hornsby and Lyle Lovett among his main influences.
He can regularly be heard on both acoustic and electric guitars at the Pilot House in Cape May, New Jersey.
