Fabrice “F.A." Metan, also known as Mr. Bilingual, is a 21-year-old WSU senior with a huge passion for music.
He started writing English rap songs at 15 in his home on the Ivory Coast of West Africa. After coming to America, he wrote and produced songs, creating mix tapes that he uploaded on the Internet.
The opportunity for becoming an artist was not presented until he received a massive response to his mix tape on www.thatcrack.com, an Internet site that allows people to download mix tapes at no cost.
“In two weeks, I had 1,300 downloads," he said.
He also noticed that the amount of downloads equaled the amount of hits.
“I guess they felt that my music was worth downloading."
Six years into the industry, Metan strives to be more than the average artist selling songs and making club music for the sake of entertaining. He said there should be substance to the album.
“You can't just have 15 tracks that would just have the club banging. A story must be told," he said.
He shares incidents that have happened in Africa in his music.
The art of expression is another important factor in music of all kinds, and Metan uses his form of expression by incorporating French and English together in some of his songs.
Each verse starts in French and ends in English.
Some listeners get confused when listening to these songs.
“They thought I would translate what I said in French, when I'm actually finishing a thought in English," he said.
Last Thursday at the Rock Island club, Metan advised the approximately 100 audience members to stay focused and follow.
WSU freshman Cami Chapman was blown away when she heard his music.
“Wow, that was different!" she said. “He really knows what he's doing."
Metan will be completing his accounting degree next semester and plans to one day become a financial officer while pursuing a career in music. - The Sunflower

F.A, also known as Mr. Bilingual, is a French and English speaking Rapper from the Ivory Coast (West Africa). He had the chance to explore different cultures at an early age by traveling from places like Morocco and Benin to France and the United States. Early in his career, F.A began rapping in French and English which will eventually grow to be what he now calls rhyming bilingual.
F.A came to the United States in the year 2005 to study Accounting at Wichita State University where he simultaneously pursued his Accounting degree as well as an artist career. During that time, he also became an excellent producer and went on to produce a series of records through which he sold and shared with artists and other producers throughout the state of Kansas.
Next up would be the release of his debut mix tape ‘’HOW TO RHYME BILINGUAL’’ May 2009 which was available online for free download. The mix tape was a blend of French and English songs with some original production done by F.A himself and was received very well with 1,300 + downloads in the first 2 weeks. This is when he adopted the alias Mr Bilingual, after seeing fans reaction to his music. He has performed at several venues and functions since then.
In May 2010, he dropped a new mixtape called “FLOWCTUATION” (a mixture of the words “flow” and “fluctuation”), and he is currently performing at several venues to promote his latest masterpiece.
