Bio
My name is Vitor Tavares Mendes aka Mr Energy Na Casa, and I was born in the impoverished ghetto Bairro Pedereira dos Hungaros in Lisbon, Portugal. I've spent my entire life surrounded by music. Music's virtually impossible not to hear in the ghetto; youngsters listen to it outside their houses, and there is always some type of "street" party and fun going on. Even though we were poor and some of us couldn't afford to eat, singing and dancing were always a part of our lives. It was our haven, our pleasure, our happiness, and our way of life. That is why my EP called “LIFE AS IT IS”. My music genres are AfroSwing, AfroPop, RnB, Ghetto Zouk. It reflects my life experience coming from CapeVerdean roots such as Morna and Coladera Tito Paris and Cesária Évora, Funaná by Ferro Gaita and Codé Di Dona, Passada by Gil Semedo and by Jorge Neto - Livity, Cabo Love / Cabo Zouk MoBass, Ghetto Zouk Music by Toetstar, and other genres such as Hip Hop from the group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, 2Pac and DMX, and from the French West Indies Konpa and Zouk from Kassav, R’n’B by SWV, Missy Elliott, Lauren Hill, TLC, Aaliyah, Tyrese Gibson and among many other inspiring artists, Pop Music Michael Jackson and Prince and West African rhythms such as Fela Kuti. My EP “LIFE AS IT IS” reflects my real-life experience, my past, present and future.
