Mr. Keith Little : A mother's love (Paes records)
The Cincinnati Blues Man is apart from being a blues singer / bass player also the
founder and president of Cincinnati's United Local Artists Network inc. and
president and owner of Popular Arts Entertainment Systems inc. He had a local
television show and produced the Cincinnati blues video documentary "Tanks for
my flowers". When he has time left, he plays the blues. "A mother's love" is
dedicated to his mother who lost her eyesight and to his father. The blues he
brings is extremely funky and groovy, listen to 'I'll rise above it all', a tremendous
song, based on a deep thrilling bassline; on of the best songs on the album. Some
others reach the same level, but sometimes he gets mellow. Most songs
are written by himself, except the opening song 'Further on down the road' , which
is a Taj Mahal cover.

"Queensland (Australia)"

Hi Keith, I Have had a listen to the Downtown CD, It is very good, sounds like it was a good night. It really captures the feel of the show, some live recordings don't do that very well. I really hope you do get here for the Blues Festival at Byron Bay, any word on that yet?

"Mr. Keith Little - Take It Off And Get Loose With It"

Featured Blues Review 4 of 5
Mr. Keith Little - Take It Off And Get Loose With It Blue Skunk Musicwww.myspace.com/mrkeithlittlesrMr. Keith Little is known as "The Cincinnati Blues Man, King of the Blues" and with good reason, this latest CD further strengthens his Royal designation. “Stand My Ground” starts the way I like a tune to start, EXPLOSIVE! Stacks O Horns, huge lead guitar by Marcos Sastre, the mystic sound of that organ in and out of the verse, wife, Cheryl Renee Little, followed by the King himself on lead vocals, always, Mr. Keith Little. He has that dark smooth honey kind of a voice, strong, deep sexxxxxy. Driving drum pops. Do ya want it? Hes got it! After just half way through this first tune I was ready to say ‘sold’ I’ve got to have this CD. “Copper Tops” starts with an old school styled piano, Ricky Nye. Its sweet talking keys at their tastiest. Could this Keith Little be the man to take the place of the great Joe Williams? Sure reminds me of Basie and Williams on their best days except all pure Blues. Talk some of the verse, say it down low, and once again mark it ‘sold’, Now I'm telling you straight - this is one fine listening CD. “Get Loose With It” has Keith open with his bass lick followed with a mirror image as the horn section blows that same riff. Thank you Mr. Gary Winters, great horn arrangements and now sprinkle in just the right amount of organ. Sweet. And then all of a sudden all these vocals start an inter-active fugue type feel. Killer good. Great energy. My kind of stuff and then there's that smoking guitar coming at you from out of nowhere. Power, pure Blues power. Now I have to stop myself from going on and on or Ill end up with a ten page review so lets just skip down a bit. Here I am landing on tune number 11, “New Shoes” bingo all over again. That smooth groove thang, take your time take your time take your time, soft shuffle, crying guitar and man is Keith doing it. Now the next tune, whats this now? “Mr. Kochca” has a strong late 60s blues rock sound thing going on and filled out with that modern cut ya guitar sound. And what’s Keith doing on this tune, tone talking that low stuff. Very tasty, talking a little bit of trash and he likes that! The last tune, which comes way too soon is “Rainy Night In Georgia” the only tune not written by Mr. Little, this one done justice by Tony Joe White. If you need a mental image of this song think Barry White. This song is Soul Blues, slow close dancing soulful blues and leading the way the singing sexy sax of Mr. Marcus Griswom. Not too much sax and not to little, just the right amount. This CD was thoroughly thought through, is an excellent production and recorded superbly. Not once during my listening did I think anything at all was out of balance. One of my pet peeves. Just excellent from top to bottom. Keith Little's Take It Off” Lets Get Loose With It is long on those soulful blues & as a public service here is the web site address: www.myspace.com/mrkeithlittlesr Tell him I sent you!EDITORS NOTE: This CD was previously released and reviewed as an Independent release. "Live at The Village Hall,"

Keith ‘Bluesman’ Little

Cincinnati singer /songwriter / guitarist whose baritone vocals are the blues equivalent of Barry White - one for the ladies!

Live at The Village Hall,
Castor,
Peterborough,
7.30pm

Saturday 20th June 2009
Keith Little was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Clarence and Dosier Little on July 15th 1953. His god-fearing parents moved whilst he was still a babe in arms to Georgiana, Alabama and it was here that he was raised with his brother Larry. His father Clarence was a gospel singer and formed a quartet The Golden Wings in 1957 whilst also singing in the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church Choir on Sundays and high days. The young Keith soaked up this tradition whilst hanging onto his father’s leg.
His first encounter with the blues came when he was 7 years old and courtesy of an old blues guitar player called Willie (“I never did know his last name”) who lived three doors away. Keith was attracted to the ‘blue notes’ and would sit on Willie’s porch for hours listening to the old man play.
When Keith was in the sixth grade his mother bought him a guitar and his brother Larry a drum kit. Together, with their cousins, they settled down to practice gospel music. However, the radios in the neighbourhood were often tuned into music stations and soon the boys began to pick up on the latest B.B. King/Bobby Bland offerings. So when the adults were away the boys began to play ‘The Blues’.
If they were caught they would be given extra bible studies to drag them back into the path of righteousness. Meanwhile not all of the adults disapproved and his uncle, the famous pianist Big Joe Duskin, was always there if they needed encouragement.
In 1973 Keith went back to Cincinnati and formed a band called the ‘Electric Flag’, which featured the Farringdon Brothers singing whilst performing back flips and splits on stage. During this time he also began to hang out with older blues men on the local scene listening befriending and playing with the great Albert Washington, H Bomb Ferguson, Big Ed Thomson, Roosevelt Lee and Pigmeat Jarrett. At the same time he was inducted into the gospel quartet ‘The Original Christianaires’ as a bass player and singer replacing Bootsy Collins who was moving to stardom in a different world.
Six months later and hungry for success Keith left both these groups and formed his own R&B outfit ‘The Iceband’ which played soul / funk / R&B and blues and his own gospel group The Goldenaires Gospel Quartet. He went out on the road with both groups looking for fame and fortune. Marriage and five children soon put pay to this idea and Keith began looking for a better paying job and sensibly decided to open his own construction business which paid the bills but restricted him to only playing locally and at weekends. During the next twenty years he also found time to become a play writer, produce a video documentary of the Cincinnati blues scene (Thanks for my Flowers) host a TV show (Mr Little’s Hangout) and become Vice President of the Cincinnati Blues Society.
In 1995 he produced the excellent album of self-penned blues and R&B ‘The Cincinnati Blues Man’ on San-Ton Records. Four years later he formed his own PAES Records and recorded a live album ‘Going Downtown’ at The Jefferson Hall in Cincinnati and in 2001 he released the very fine ‘A Mothers Love’. Last year he sent me a copy of his latest CD ‘Take It Off And Get Loose With It’. His voice by now has mellowed into a smooth baritone and reminds me slightly of a blues version of Barry White. I was asked by the organisers of The Peterborough Festival if we could find a suitable act to open this years proceedings I immediately thought that Keith would be the perfect choice. Stone blues for the men, soulful knee tremblers for the ladies. Luckily Keith was available and Dave Thomas was happy to bring his band for what will be another great party night in Castor.
