Bio

Ms. AJ was born in Birmingham, AL in 1978 and is the youngest of three girls in a middle class family. Her mother and two sisters both sang, but Ms AJ was given a talent a bit different from them. Ms. AJ began singing at the age of six in the Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church's Sunbeam choir. Soon after, she began singing with the W.J. Nichols Gospel Ensemble which was located in Adamsville, AL. As time progressed, she began singing in local talent shows, youth fairs, chorus competitions, and stage plays. After graduating with an undergraduate degree from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, Ms. AJ moved to Atlanta, GA in the year 2000. While living in the great city referred to as "Hotlanta" she began lending her voice to local Atlanta artists such as Chuck and Lolita Colby, Jampoet, and her home church, New Covenant Christian Ministries. She has been a featured artist at events such as Jazz Night with the Old National Social Club, Gospel According to Jazz, and The Mighty Experience at the Apache Cafe. She has also performed on the main stage at the 2010 Bronner Brothers Hair Show.

She desires to have a great presence in the Neo-Soul and R&B genre. Her first single "Brand New Lady" was released the spring of 2010. The central theme of her music is consistent with the artistic works of Layla Hathaway and Jill Scott. Her Musical influences are Frankie Beverly and Maze, Kim Burrell, India Arie, and Phyllis Hyman. Ms. AJ's values shine through her music in words of encouragement, empowerment, and love.
