"Ms. Jaz"

“· Local singer Ms. Jaz (aka Sheila Marshall) will release her debut disc, Chances, this Sunday. The album mixes original songs with cover tunes, but the highlight is Marshall's soulful, expressive vocals. The general sound of the album is a warm Contemporary Jazz-to-Pop crossover, with an R&B undercurrent. Her CD release party at the Forest Park Activity Center is already sold out. For more on the album, write to D'Mar Entertainment, Inc., 7723 Tylers Place Blvd., #275, West Chester, OH 45069. The disc, available at local music-friendly record and book sellers, will also be on cdbaby.com in the next couple of weeks.” - Cincinnati Citybeat Magazine

"Essence Of Now “Just Listen” Review"

“Sheila "Jaz" Marshall's Sometimes I Wonder Why begins like an old vinyl album. Behind the beautiful piano intro, played by Andrew Toombs, scratches in the well worn grooves tell the story of an obviously loved song, played repeatedly.
A curtain rises in a smoke filled cabaret and the spotlight shines on a microphone, standing alone. A gorgeous woman, dressed in evening clothes, glides up to the microphone, clutches it with her gloved hands and her smooth voice begins to drift over you.
A torch song sung with passion, Sheila brings to mind past greats such as Billie Holiday and Lena Horne. A lush song, done with timeless style, Sometimes I Wonder Why is a dazzling example of fresh, yet traditional jazz. Also adding their own distinctive style to this song is Kerry Jordan on
electric bass, Irwin Stuckey, drums and Ted Karas, guitar.”

"Top Ten Jazz Album"

“Ms. Jaz had one of her albums named “Top Ten Jazz Albums” in British Columbia and has received countless marks for excellence among both her peers as well as music industry insiders. She`s got some great tonsils let me tell ya. She can really get out there and grab your attention with her astonishing range. She goes for a more smooth jazz and adult contemporary approach on this album although she`s delved in MoTown, Blues, and even Gospel. It`s good and memorable.” - Smother.net

"Chances by Ms. Jaz - Reviewed by CJ Overton"

Silky, smooth and not so subtly jazz is Ms. Jaz. Her second release, titled Chances, is a sultry blend of her voice and the accompanying instruments that make this CD a total jazz experience. Recorded on the D'Mar Entertainment record label, Ms. Jaz's smoky tones will remind the listener of great female jazz vocalists like Sarah Vaughn and Anita Baker.

In these 8 tracks there is a mixture of original lyrics and familiar lyrics to songs such "This Masquerade," written by Leon Russell, and "My Funny Valentine," written by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers. Ms. Jaz puts her own unique spin on each of these cuts.

An easy bass, provided by Kerry "Smurf" Jordan, along with the mellow keyboard talents of Jordan and Andrew Toombs, wrap around the listener like a haze, while Ms. Jaz seduces the listener in cut 6, "You Take My Breath Away." "Things that you do to me/ Open up my eyes to see/ The beauty that's inside of you/ It lets me know you love me too."

Soulful and sultry blend together to create the mood in cut 8, "Chance on A Lover." Jaz croons a laid back melody, "Even if you're not with somebody/ The power of love doesn't quit/ And all you got to do is tap into it." What good jazz is complete without a good sax player? Alpha Frierson reveals his expertise on the saxophone in this, and other cuts.

Take a chance with Ms. Jaz on her newest release, Chances. This innovative artist will capture many new fans through her own style of jazz. Don't miss her fresh, new sound!
