Being that I am a solo artist many of my influences came from those female artists that pioneered the way for me to grab a mic and put in some work. We are talking about such well known female lyricists like Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lil' Kim, Missy Elliot, Da Brat, Rah Digga to the unsung heroines of old school rap like Peebly Poo, the first lady of hip-hop, Finesse and Sequence, Amelie and all the other female pioneers that have been part of the hip-hop movement. Coming out of the Bronx, affectionately known as " Da BX" where hip-hop was started I have seen the harsh realities of being raised in an Urban Jungle.
I was 1st bitten by the music bug when I was in the 3rd grade and did a little rap for my school assembly. From then on I became a "Hip-Hop Dreamgirl" you can say. By the time I was in my late teens I had seriously honed my skills and became a mainstay on the underground circuit taking timeout only for motherhood.
Being from the inner city I know all about struggling to make it and you can hear it in my music. I rap from deep inside my soul. My lyrics speak as a testimony of my life. It is through hip-hop that I am able to express my feelings because I breathe and live the music. To put it plain and simple I am a true representative of what Hip-Hop is all about. The complexities and paradoxes that can be seen throughout the nation which we call Hip-Hop can be seen in my life. The ups and downs that strike us personally and professionally. I have seen it all and "I am a Survivor."
Because of my knowledge about the hardships of those that came before me I have so much respect for the craft that I am staking my life on. I have shown tremendous patience in fine tuning my skills and now I am ready to become the next big thing out of the N.Y.C and rep the legions of ladies in Hip-Hop. I have a mixed tape that is going to set things off for me in summer 2008 and I am ready to drop my debut album early next year. I have performed up and down the East coast and have created a buzz but now it is time to take it Global with my talents. I can be found in the lab putting in more work for the best product. ms. Merciles will be a forced to be reckoned with for years to come showing "NO MERCY" for the game.
For 2007 and on "the sky is the limit" so watch out for the invasion of ms. Merciles coming to a hood near you soon !!!
