"Mts. & Tunnels"

Mts. & Tunnels, Mts + Tunnels (out now, self released, mtstunnels.bandcamp.com): This Debut album is cozy old-school garage rock filled with bluesy guitar riffs punctuated by vintage horns. At times the local group has a classic Northwest Folk-rock sound made more apparent on tracks like “Something in the light”, where the complementary vocals are reminiscent of The Head and the heart’s harmonies. Bio

The original demo recordings for Mts. & Tunnels were created by Chris Poage in a creaky old orchard house in Seattle. Dozens of songs were written and dozens were tossed out. However, by 2011, 10 tracks presented themselves and the timing was perfect for Norman Baker(Ian McFeron), Daniel Braithwaite (Eternal Fair) to record what would become their debut EP. Then one weekend in June the trio, with the help of Mel Dettmer’s magic cat Bones, created a musical spell that put them in a trance like state for 2 days of epic recording. After overdubbing horns, keyboards, vocal harmonies, and mixing help from TJ Berry, the album was released at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard with a full 8 piece band to an excited and welcoming crowd.

After a year of gigs, band fights and beach parties. 2013 is shaping up to be a very interesting year for the group. First their new single “Pictures” was recorded with Mike Coykendall (M.ward, She & Him) and released on a 7” record. Then a random call from a TV producer found them starring on a pilot episode of a reality TV show about local bands called “Band in Seattle”

Sarah Schmidt(vocals) Katie Clayton(Trumpet) Liana Green (Trombone) Kent Halvorsen (keyboards) and Sandy Dickerson (uke, guitar) were the missing links in the chain of friends that now forms Mts. & Tunnels. The Seattle Weekly calls the band “cozy old-school garage rock filled with bluesy guitar riffs punctuated by vintage horns. At times the local group has a classic Northwest Folk-rock sound made more apparent on tracks like “Something in the light”, where the complementary vocals are reminiscent of The Head and the Heart’s harmonies.” The new single entitled “Pictures” is available on a limited edition 7” and sold at their concerts. The MP3 is available for download and can be found on their website. www.mtsandtunnels.com
