"AmericanRootsUK.com Review"

“There is clarity and excellent separation and the vocals and playing are not only highly skilled but also full of the fire and passion that helps set them apart from most bands. / Fairly obviously I love this album! / No doubt there will be other great albums and bands coming along this year, but it really doesn't get any better than this. Great album by a great band!” - AmericanRootsUk.com

""From the Stillhouse" Review"

"There’s a lot to love despite all the spilled blood.” - Grayowl Point

"Quip Magazine Interview"

“By crafting their own fatal tunes, the boys of Murder Murder have taken this century- old tradition and added a unique mark on the contemporary Canadian folk community.” - Quip Magazine

"New Canadian Music"

“Despite the dark themes, there's an exuberant feel to much of their music.” - Kerry Doole

""Take Liberty", CBC New Brunswick"

Brilliant high-spirited performance here, with dark and compelling twists and turns. I love the gang or lets say "posse" type vocals on this and the shuffling rhythm of the percussion. Sounds like a dead man walking in shackles. - Jeff Liberty

""From the Stillhouse" Review"

“Comparisons to a band as peerless as the Old Crow Medicine Show are unavoidable but it doesn't take long when listening to this tremendous album by Murder Murder to realize that whilst they have stylistic similarities and as much fire and passion they cover a different musical range.”

- Antonio Geraldo

""Murder Murder Murder" Review"

"The singers pour honey on brutality... fit to captivate any crowd in Canada" - Grayowl Point

"CBC Searchlight Audience Pick"

"The guys from Murder Murder are from Sudbury, my home area code. Means they’re hard as coffin nails. Guarantee they've fired shotguns, hefted an axe, and used a rope for a belt before. Murder ballads on the frontier? Yes, sir! And 'bloodgrass'? C’Mon! As good a sub genre-defining sound as hardcore was to DOA.” - Paul Knowles

"Instagram Comment"

“Your performance was excellent and you were so great with the kids!” - iluvtheguitars

"5 Spooky Canadian Halloween Songs"

"Murder Murder call their music "Bloodgrass" and their new album, From The Stillhouse, is made up of 100% murder ballads. It's pretty kickass stuff..." - Kithfolk

"Acoustic Magazine UK July 2016"

Once you pluck up the courage to listen to what these guys have to offer, you’ll discover nothing more sinister than a kicking bluegrass band from the frozen wastes of Ontario. Tales of death and violence, evil winds and sweet revenge / which are all played with the kind of manic intensity we associate with bands like the Pogues, and are set off by some expert flailing banjo, rasping fiddle, and a suitcase kick drum. Some truly great songs set this bunch of desperadoes well ahead of the pack. - Acoustic Magazine

"North East Music Monthly May 23/16"

This is a roller coaster of an album built on blood, trains, murder, passion and death. / A heady mixture with some of the most infectious and memorable songs I’ve heard in a while. / The whole album, at times, is reminiscent of ‘The Band’ at their best. / If you want to hear songs filled with fire and vinegar alongside great playing and deep dark truthful emotions then this Murder Murder album is for you - highly recommended. - North East Music Monthly

"FATEA May 19/16"

They mine the furthest recesses of the soul, those deep deep places, right in the back, where someone who’s crossed us, spurned us or left us unrequited is still burning us, they love the smart of the wound. Murder Murder are the band for revenge, the sound track for wishing harm on others, raw, wrath filled, and gothic in the extreme. Music from the places most of us suppress - and they embrace it with joyous abandon - Hallelujah! It’s rich, exquisitely played, full of riotous rebellion, cheery abandon, unsettling so when you realise it is all about deed done bad. / It's a flurry of frantic fiddles and banjos bowling along at rocketship pace, without distracting from the terrific story songs. / It’s a terrific record, guaranteed to leave you gasping for air, and probably in a pool of blood. - Rudie Humphrey

"Lonesome Highway Ireland Apr.28/16"

Think along the lines of punk-infused old-time music, Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions and a touch of the Pogues and you might have an approximate idea of what this 6 piece band sound like. / Some of the songs have an immediate affinity with age-old traditional songs, which is a testament to their commitment to bring life into a style that has been around a long time and needs the occasional kick in the arse. Murder Murder are not the only band doing this by any means, but on their own terms, they may be one of the best. - Lonesome Highway

Bio

Murder Murder is a “Bloodgrass" band (Bluegrass + Outlaw Country + Exclusively Murder Ballads) hailing from the frozen forests of the Ontario Northland. Their tales of death are filled with life by the kick of the suitcase, saw of the fiddle, and roll of the banjo.

As devoted fans of bluegrass, traditional music, and folk music, they were drawn to the murky ethical themes of the murder ballad form and to its enduring nature. Oftentimes murder ballads capture the essence and atmosphere of a dark, lawless and violent frontier. Northern Ontario, although never romanticized in the way that the Wild West or the far north during the gold rush era were, was once such a place - with a wealth of stories and characters. The lack of mythology associated with Northern Ontario is troubling, and thus Murder Murder felt it their responsibility to create their own mythology.

Since its inception in 2013 Murder Murder has produced two full-length records (“Murder Murder Murder” and “From the Stillhouse”), two music videos (“Cadillac” and “If the Sky Should Fall”) and toured extensively. They have performed four Canadian East Coast tours, showcased at Folk Music Ontario, Canadian Music Week, and NXNE, and performed at festivals including Northern Lights Festival Boreal (Sudbury ON), River & Sky Camping and Music Festival (Field ON), NLFB Octoberfest (Sudbury ON), Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival (Fredericton NB), Feels Good Folly Fest (Gagetown NB) and Upfest (Sudbury ON). They have been featured in videos by Caper Radio, Jeff’s Musical Car, Shoeclack Radio, TFO’s BRBR, and have made it to #1 on the campus charts in both Sudbury and Edmonton. Murder Murder’s was nominated for “Best Songwriter” in the 2015 Northern Ontario Film & Music Awards, and beat out more than one hundred other bands from across Northern Ontario to become Regional Champion in the 2015 CBC Searchlight Competition. As well as making it to the final 23 bands out of more than 3300 entries, Murder Murder was also selected as an “Audience Favourite”. They recently signed with a new Toronto-based label, IndieCan Records, will soon be showcasing at Folk Music Ontario, performing at Indie Week Toronto, and then embarking on a cross-Canada tour promoting their new record.
