Stuart Staples (Tindersticks) named MURDER his “Favorite New Band” in Pitchfork: “We played some shows with Danish band Murder earlier in the year and I became a fan. Simple music and melodies, but with a real depth and a strangeness within the songs...and a great voice.” NEW ALBUM OUT OCT 2010

Biography

Murder is intense neo-folk/pop from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Jacob Bellens (vocals) and Anders Mathiasen (vocal & guitar) are the highly praised and very talented people behind the morbid name.

Stuart Staples (Tindersticks) declared Murder as his “Favorite New Band” in Pitchfork (March ‘09): “We played some shows with Danish band Murder earlier in the year and I became a fan. Simple music and melodies, but with a real depth and a strangeness within the songs...and a great voice.”

With their second album ”Stockholm Syndrome” (October 2006), Murder endeavoured on their own special interpretation of neo-folk. Holding each other hostage in the most loving way possible, their musical sphere is sincere and intense.

Jacob Bellens' characteristic voice is the focal point of a largely acoustic, 70s-inspired sound, and has been compared to the likes of Nick Drake and Johnny Cash. Murder’s lyrics are captivating melancholic stories told in the unarticulated soothing voice of Jacob Bellens. Instrumented sensitively by cello, double bass, trombone, banjo, marimba and glockenspiel – drums only occasionally enter their universe.

The album was extremely well received by critics, and several declared ”Stockholm Syndrome” to be among the best albums of the year.
Murder has toured the continent extensively - playing numerous gigs and festivals, amongst them PopKomm, SXSW, Roskilde Festival and Reeperbahn Festival (twice). In April ’08 they received a personal invitation from Tindersticks’ frontman Stuart Staples to open for them in Copenhagen and Berlin. A success so great that Murder joined them again on their European tour in December ‘08.
Murder’s nordic melancholy and heart-warming americana has also impressed Rolling Stones’ David Fricke, who found them to be one of the 2008 highlights at the Danish SPOT Festival.

Murder will release their third album "Gospel Of Man", October 2010.
