MURDER

Murder, a two-piece folk-inspired band from Denmark. Jacob Bellens (vocals) and Anders Mathiasen (vocal & guitar) are the highly praised and very talented people behind the morbid name.

It's been almost four years since Murder released the highly acclaimed album Stockholm Syndrome. Their new album, Gospel of Man, will be released in October 2010.

Stuart Staples (Tindersticks) declared Murder as his “Favorite New Band” in Pitchfork (March ‘09): “We played some shows with Danish band Murder earlier in the year and I became a fan. Simple music and melodies, but with a real depth and a strangeness within the songs...and a great voice.”

Their music has captured the hearts of many audiences and critics, leaving a trail of praising comments such as "overwhelmingly beautiful" and "best rock vocalist in Denmark".

Murder will tour Europe intensely from September – November 2010, including showcases at Iceland Airwaves, Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg), Dias Nordicos (Madrid) and MaMa Event (Paris). See full 2010 tour schedule below.

Murder has endeavoured on their own special interpretation of neofolk. Jacob and Anders have played together for more than fourteen years. Their musical sphere is sincere and intense. Jacob Bellens' characteristic voice is the focal point of a largely acoustic, 70s-inspired sound, that has been compared to the likes of Nick Drake and Johnny Cash. Murder’s lyrics are captivating mindtickling stories told in the unarticulated soothing voice of Jacob Bellens.
Gospel of Man is a more extrovert experience than Stockholm Syndrome was, but the complexity and essentially the uniqueness of Murder's music remains the same.

In 2008 Stockholm Syndrome was released in the rest of Europe and Murder has since then toured extensively - playing numerous gigs, amongst them PopKomm, Roskilde Festival, Reeperbahn Festival and SXSW. In April 2008 they received a personal invitation from Tindersticks’ frontman Stuart Staples to open for them in Copenhagen and Berlin.
A success so great that Murder joined them again on their European tour in December. Murder’s nordic melancholy and heart-warming americana has also impressed
Rolling Stones’ David Fricke, who found them to be one of the highlights of the Danish
SPOT Festival in 2008.

On stage the line-up varies from duo to quintet.

"***** 5/6"

“Bellens, his accomplice Anders Mathiasen and a row of guests succeed in playing the best neo-folk I’ve heard in ages. The dark and almost drum less songs are simply strong and very moving. If you’re the type that only buys a couple of records a year, then let this be one of them – or maybe even both.” - Gaffa

"***** 5/6"

“…Without respect but with international class Murder vie for best Danish album of the year...Jacob Bellens’ completely compelling, fabulous vocal is so mighty and magnificent, that already by the first rotation, all you can do is love this album beyond recognition” - Berlingske Tidende

"***** 5/6"

“Stockholm Syndrome is absolutely one of the best Danish releases this year. It’s durable and will in all of its fall melancholy grow bigger and even more beautiful every time you listen to it – in other words, an album with international class.” - Lydhoer.dk

"**** 4/6"

“…not many beats go by, before you happily let yourself capture by this fine and in its own mute way, very turgid country and newfolk album.” - Politiken

"***** 5/6"

“Stockholm Syndrome is so far one of this years best releases.” - Undertoner

"‘Recommended’ (1 out of 200 Danish albums receive this)"

“The album shines by being coherent and well balanced. At some points even magical. Stockholm Syndrome or not: I have succeeded in not just feeling sympathy, but simply falling in love with the “murderers” and this consistent Danish album of international caliber.” - Geiger

"**** 4/6"

“The duos’ dusty melancholy folk is captivating and I feel sympathy for the perpetrators.” - Jyllands Posten

"***** 5/6"

“Behind the guitars lie cello, double-bass, trombone, marimba and tubular bells that tie beautiful runners around the melodies. Stockholm Syndrome is atmospheric music, which you by guarantee can’t dance to, but it is personal and original.” - Vejle Amts Folkeblad
