Bio

Murray Thorne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His family moved to the west coast of Canada when he was 4 years old. After graduating he made the rounds of the Vancouver bar circuit for 10 years as a singer, guitarist & keyboard player, which led him to being picked up as a side-man for a few local recording artists, most notably ‘Raymond May’, whom he toured with, opening for acts such as Iggy Pop & Aerosmith. After collecting years of experience playing all sizes of venues across North America, (though always playing for other artists), he decided to hone his own songwriting skills.
.
He moved to Maui, where worked diligently to find his own identity as a songwriter, while continuing to perform as a solo acoustic act, playing a wide variety of classic rock covers & Celtic music. With next to no venues there to promote his original music, he made regular trips back to the Pacific Northwest --WHICH WAS ALWAYS & STILL IS HIS MUSICAL HOME-BASE--Because the travel expense & distance rarely afforded him to perform with a full band, he was forced to take his solo performances to a new level, emulating the raw energy of a rock band, while at the same time keeping a unique level of intimacy with his audiences.

Murray Thorne’s first solo album, titled “Tin Can Telephone”, (due out Spring of 2009), is a solid example of Thorne’s combined talent & songwriting influences, which range from arena stye Brit-rock to classic American folk. Ultimately a rock album, it reflects his quest for substance as a songwriter. Like his performances, it is passionate, powerful & intimate. His strong delivery of the songs live, either solo, or with a full band when possible, has drawn him comparisons to the likes of Bruce Springsteen & David Bowie with his ability to do both.

Thorne currently plays solo original shows in the Seattle area, between gigs with local Irish-rock band "Celtic Tigers"on Maui.
