It was the lucky 13th anniversary of Honey Jam at the Mod Club, yet another sweet affair. The passionate metropolitan massive that carries the torch for the next generation of female singers, DJs and dancers from across Canada occupied three-quarters of the venue.

Efficiency is key: with the one-song show format, plus two intermissions to fine-tune things, the less stellar singers stepped aside before you could complain, while the greatest performers exploded instantly, then left you in a state of desire. Like Jessica Kaya, who had everyone’s attention delivering the heartfelt For You, and South Africa’s KG, wearing gold-sequined jeans, whose searing slow-jam intro automatically made all stand to attention before she rocked a Déjà Vu-like hotstepper in a voice that could make Beyoncé want to practise more. Nicola Moore and the Pussycat Dolls-ish Cookie Couture also impressed. The spontaneous grand finale cipher saw them all gather onstage and featured soaring solo vocal runs, scatting, Erykah Badu covers, freestyle raps, duets and a riveting Natasha Waterman a cappella that proved that somebody’s doing something right.

A few of these performers may ascend to stardom, or at least long-term success, but music industry sexism and the breakdown of the standard singer/songwriter format make that dream difficult to realize. It’d be a shame if another Nelly Furtado-like phenomenon never emerged in Canada. Honey Jam proved once again that the talent is here, ready to deliver. - http://www.nowtoronto.com/music/story.cfm?content=164452

"New Artist KG Storms North America With Her April Release of Her Debut Album 'The Art of Love'"

Mar 31, 2008 17:44 ET

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 31, 2008) - New Canadian artist KG releases her debut album entitled 'The Art of Love' April 2008. The music of this former South African Idol echoes the likes of Marvin Gaye, Lauryn Hill and John Mayer. KG is a 21 year old singer, musician, producer and songwriter based in Toronto, already hailed as the next Alicia Keys. Take one listen to her music and you'll soon understand why her songs transcend genre definitions and age barriers; she speaks straight to the human soul.

KG performs in Toronto and surrounding areas, and is building a buzz over her imminent EP release titled 'The Art of Love' featuring her single 'In Love' available April 2008 from selected locations and online digital distribution stores e.g. iTunes May 2008 . Her sound is a refreshing mix of R&B/Hip-Hop Soul with a unique 'singer-songwriter twist.' Recent highlights include performing at Toronto's acclaimed 'Honey Jam', the former stomping grounds of fellow Canuck Nelly Furtado.

At Honey Jam 2007, she wowed audiences and even impressed fellow Canuck Jully Black. She has performed for YWCA, and Loretto College's 'Give Peace a Dance'. And most recently she participated in the USA World Showcase where she made the top 20 out of over 40,000 auditions. The future looks bright for this young international star.

Bio

If Africa and Canada got married...it would sound like this...

Haunting, Soothing, Melodic, Rhythmic.
Singer songwriter KG blends pop, r&b and percolating African Rhythms to create a sound she calls “Neo-Fro”.

Not a stranger to hip-hop, this former South African Idol finalist also raps over her own guitar and piano riffs. She sings in 5 languages, and draws audiences in with a voice like red wine.

KG is currently working on her first full length album.
