“Shawn D” is a newly emerging singer who has a remarkable ability to astonish and impress listeners. With his unique vocal style and nearly magical performance, he is grounded in individuality and is becoming known a one-of-a-kind novelty in his craft.

Shawn D has nuanced the world of music and is loved by an audience of teenagers, grandparents, and all ages between. New listeners are buzzing about his captivating style of performance, and the exciting vocalist is certain to continue gaining interest from across the world.

The development of his performing ability is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in several parts of the U.S.A, Shawn D has always been surrounded by different forms of music. From listening to the sounds of the church, to hearing the voices of the McArthur high school choir, Shawn D picked up a variety of musical techniques. Immersing himself in the specific styles of Jazz and Contemporary R&B, Shawn D matured himself and his understanding of music throughout his upbringing.

As a native of Chicago, IL and later a resident of Decatur, IL, Shawn D learned to adjust to different environments easily. It is during this time that he began to truly appreciate the value music. Initially, music to Shawn D was an escape of the tribulations of life, but he soon realized that music was a powerful medium which could emotionally move people. He acknowledges that, “If [music] can move someone emotionally, if you’re in this mood, and it can take you to that mood, that’s the kind of music that I like.”

With a developing passion for music, Shawn D along with two childhood friends created a dance/group called FRESHMEN. On his first account of performing, Shawn D illustrated his ability to sing, dance and spread smiles across the faces of those listening. Additionally, joining a local church choir and attending the musical performing arts institution Millikin University had a profound influence on directing his musical career.

After high school he voluntarily joined the Army and served in the Middle East as a Blackhawk Infantry. As a veteran of the war in Iraq, Shawn D reflects, “It was my ability to sing while in Iraq which helped me keep my head.” Even with a family of soldiers Shawn D at times still felt by himself and his passion for music calmed his spirit during the long trials of serving his country.

While vigorously developing as an artist each and every day, Shawn D is currently on the forefront of completing his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry at the University of Miami. Upon receiving his acceptance letter to medical school, Shawn D decided to defer studying anesthesiology to pursue his quest and passion for music.

After announcing that making music was his main goal, he began to showcase his talent in various venues across South Florida. He was quickly noted for the unique style that was new to the local vocal scene, and his popularity began to quickly grow.

After honing his unique sound over recent years, he is now more equipped and prepared to make his mark on the world. Shawn D believes, “As humans, we can become additive. Likewise, I’ve dedicate my life to serving others, and lifting as I climb is what I’m about.”

Shawn D is keen to point out that every genre and musical artist he listens to adds to his musical development in some way. However, he says he would certainly include Prince, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Usher amongst his biggest influences.
