"One To Watch—Pastel’s ‘Love With Me (Tonight)’ Is A Wall Of Sound"

Before you are comatose with turkey, you might want to take a listen to EDM artist Pastel‘s new single “Love With Me (Tonight)” first. A vibrant, sometimes jarring, wall of sound, the track mixes Chris Brown rawness with electric Avicii sensibility but in a fashionably unique and compelling way.

Uganda-born and U.S.-raised, he’s been fortunate enough to (literally) see the world. He brings that sense of calm and wonder to his music, particularly on this new track. His 11-year journey (so far) has allowed him to hone is craft, and his long, impressive resume includes such notable achievements as 2010′s BMC Award for Best Hip Hop artist and Best Overall Performance and 11th place (out of 20,000) in 2012′s International Songwriting Competition. To-date he’s released three rapidly captivating mixtapes and two EPs.

Pastel is expected to drop three seven-song EPs over the course of the next year, beginning with Passion Pt. 1 this winter, with Paradigm and Passion Pt. 2 in the new year. “At the very core, I just want people to connect with my music. I want to be revered for my art. Everything else that comes along with that is simply a byproduct of that goal,” he says. Find out more about this talent via his EPK.

Keep your eyes peeled to Popdust in the coming weeks, we may or may not have a special Pastel treat.

Bio

Muyinza is an emotionally honest hip hop artist whose goal is to create music that helps people find freedom within their authentic selves.

Born in Uganda to a respected pastor and successful lawyer, Muyinza grew up surrounded by music, love and a large extended family. Muyinza’s immediate family emigrated to Ontario, Canada in the mid 1990s simultaneously seeking refuge from political unrest, and searching for better opportunities for the family. Due to a heart condition, Muyinza’s parents steered him away from sports and towards music at a very young age.

He began taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and later added drums, quickly becoming adept at both. After losing his mother to cancer in the early 2000s, Muyinza and his family relocated to Boston, Massachusetts so his father could pursue greater opportunities for supporting their family. Troublingly, the family quickly learned they had unknowingly settled into an unsafe neighborhood in Boston when there was a drive-by shooting the very first night in their new home. Luckily though, this dangerous landscape, coupled with a strong foundation in drums and piano, led to something beautiful and positive: Muyinza found solace in his music. This new pursuit led him to learn to DJ and ultimately make his own beats. Having also discovered an affinity for words and poetry, Muyinza began songwriting as well.

It was during this time that Muyinza knew he had discovered what he was meant to do. Through music, Muyinza found that he was able to better process some of the emotionally jarring events of his life and that he wanted to share his music with others in the hope of helping people in similar circumstances.

Muyinza started recording in a studio at the age of 15 and released his first few songs while still in high school. Muyinza then continued his music career in college, graduating with a Music Industry degree with a minor in Economics from Northeastern University. While in college, Muyinza also released 2 full-length albums (“Scrap Paper”, “No Idea”) and 2 mixtapes and won notable awards including “Best Hip Hop Act” and “Best Overall Performance” at the Boston Music Conference in 2010. Eager to connect with and reach as many fans as he could, Muyinza pursued every possible opportunity to perform both on and off campus, including headlining multiple student showcases and opening for Mike Posner and Big Sean in 2010.

After college, Muyinza took over the management of a few local recording studios with his business partner and producer, Gabriel Sarang o, while writing and recording 3 EPs (“Strobelights and Stars”, “Spotlights and Scars”, “Passion”). Muyinza achieved his biggest success yet with “Passion”, reaching 300,000+ streams on a fledgling (at the time) new platform called Spotify.

Over the next few years, determined to make sure his parents’ many sacrifices were not made in vain, Muyinza began focusing on music full-time. He refined his skills in writing, recording and business and - at long last - moved to Los Angeles in mid 2017 to fully pursue his dream on the ultimate stage. Since moving to LA, Muyinza has been working on his latest album entitled “First and Forever” to be released in 2019.

“It’s been a long journey to arrive here but every bump in the road came with the knowledge and lessons I needed to be able to do this properly and sustainably. I feel like I’ve been on the sidelines training for years and for the first time, I’m ready to enter the game. I’ve put in my 10,000 hours and I’m absolutely in the best shape i’ve ever been in to take it to the next level.”
