Bio

The band began as an outlet for multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Nicholas Cellinese to showcase original material, and the name My Useless Self was found on the pages of a Zen exercise book. Nicholas quickly called on his good friend and long-time collaborator Robbie Parrish to help make the transformation from words and ideas into tangible art.
In March 2010, the band released a homegrown ep at one of 98 Rock's local music showcases, entitled "Back in the Basement". The name is a pun on two things, having to finish recording the tracks in the basement because the upstairs sessions lead to police visits, and the title of the 98 Rock local spotlight is entitled Noise In The Basement. This release lead to expanding the live band, playing more shows, positive reviews from local writers, and a tour with notable stops in Las Vegas and California.
In 2011 Nick and Rob met with J. Robbins and laid the groundwork for what is now "Gifthorse", part two in the MUS catalog. A fast release was expected, but it was decided to not let time compromise an artistic statement. In April of 2013, the finished mixes were taken by Nick and Rob to Chicago for mastering by Bob Weston.
Gifthorse was finally released September 13, 2013, and the release party was coupled with an art show by Nicholas Cellinese entitled "What Could Have Been".
The album has since been received well, and can be found on
iTunes.
