Video Interview with News 12 - News 12
Myah Scavo knows how hurtful bullying can be—and in a new video by the budding talent, she shares her own pain from bullying and adds her solutions.
The video, which features l classrooms and exteriors, was posted on YouTube last week and is gaining views. Myah, 14, has a list of videos on Youtube of her performances in area theater productions and sporting events, but in less than a week her new song "Bully" has garnered more than 2,500 views.
"I'm very happy about that," she said. "I've been bullied pretty much my whole life, so it means a lot to me."
The video also features some of Myah's friends, including dancers Daria Marini and Janna Mondragon, and Jenni Glick in a scene with her mother, Marcy.
Working with Nesh Jackson—who appears in the video as a teacher in a classroom—Myah cowrote the song to express her attitude towards bullying. She's been building a musical career for several years, with dance, drama and vocal lessons from teachers in New York City and Atlanta (where she went for a clinic with Dionee Osborn at Jan Smith Studio).
She's also been building a team dedicated to helping build her career—she had been a contestant on "X Factor," but didn't advance on the show.
"I'm kind of a plain person and not as interesting as some of the other people," Myah said. She was undaunted by the show's lack of interest, though: "It doesn't bother me. It's OK."
Rather than continue to pursue reality TV shows, though, she is focused on developing a long-term career. Working with professional production teams for her videos and recordings (which will be available through iTunes), she's keeping her eyes focused on the long-term.
How does it feel to be 14 and leading such a team?
"It does get very intimidating—I can't mess up because all these people have invested so much time and money in me."
The solution, though is simple.
"I'm just supposed to be singing and enjoying myself," she said. - Warren, NJ - NJ Patch
