"Hey! Review on Triple J Unearthed.com"

Rating: 4/5
Pummeling rock with an anthemic chorus. Well played, well constructed.

ECHO OF FUTURE PAST

Four talented musicians with a desire to carve their own mark have put their money where their music is to launch a debut record that speaks from the rock’n’roll soul of the Australian music scene.

MY ECHO describes their music as “rock’n’roll laid over the solid foundation of punk rock”. But it’s more than just rock and roll with a healthy splash of punk rock sound.

MY ECHO’s belief in their music is such that the lads have taken the great leap to fund their new EP themselves – recording, mastering and pressing their debut release The New Approach.

The first single For Old Times Sake is the start of a great new direction and the focus of their debut tour through New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia during September and October.

MY ECHO’s lead vocalist/guitarist Brenton Perry said they approached the new release with a reinvigorated passion.
“We’ve been playing together in various guises for over 10 years, but by forming MY ECHO in early 2010, we took a deliberate step in our own direction,” he said.

“We wanted to write in a way that is true to our own style, while recognising that as Australian musicians, we owe much to the music of the past.

“We’re extremely proud of the result – especially as we invested so much of ourselves in this album. It’s been a true DIY approach.”

Their live show has been described as a “must see” that delivers “an almost tangible energy”.

MY ECHO members Brenton Perry (vocals and guitar), Darcy Carter (guitar and vocals) Ben Thomas-Gill (bass and vocals) and Henry Hollingsworth (drums) locked themselves in a Melbourne rehearsal space to find that energy.

“We began writing the material with a new direction in mind – and the energy poured into the new material we wrote for this release,” Brenton said.

“The first single For Old Times Sake captures our own sound but harks back to punk rock days and pays its dues to good old Australian rock’n’roll.”

While the lads have come together as MY ECHO, they are no strangers to the music scene. As a collective since 2001, the band has toured through every state of Australia and played alongside International Acts including Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, Anti-Flag, Thursday, and top Australian Acts such as Gyroscope, Trial Kennedy, Kiss Chasy and 28 Days. They’ve also worked with Australian music figures like Andrew Farris (INXS), Scotte Woods (One Dollar Short), DW Norton (Superheist, Faultline Records), Darren Thompson (Thinktank, Producer) and Matt Darcy (BNM).

MY ECHO launched their debut release THE NEW APPROACH on 17 September 2011 at Revolver Upstairs to a crowd of 230+ and then set out on their debut Australian tour on 22 September supporting Trial Kennedy at the Saloon Bar in Traralgon before heading up the East Coast.
