"Myke Terry - Musician"

" I sing, play guitar, and a full band of five other extremely talented musicians. I wanted to start making music that anybody can get into and the kind that connects with a lot of people. The drive to create art in this genre began as just talks with my friend and band mate, Amber Blankenship. We met in middle school and would always joke about one day making “slow rock music and seeing the world” together. Years went by, she played in a bunch of really good groups that I was always a fan of, and I went off and did other bands as well. One day we just decided to stop talking about it and make it happen. "Former Bury Your Dead Vocalist Myke Terry Was 'Surprised' by His Exit"

" But Terry isn't resting on his laurels or wasting time being bitter. He has already moved on and is pursuing his post-BYD career. "I've got 20 or 30 songs and I am putting a band together," Terry said. "We played shows in my hometown in Virginia. We'll see what happens. Touring is something I enjoy doing. Now that I am no longer in BYD, I can pursue this full-time." - Noisecreep

Bio

Korn. Disturbed. Mudvayne. Ozzy Osbourne. All have one thing in common: They all have toured alongside Myke Terry. His unrelenting drive to pursue his passion for music has taken him from living in a van on the streets of his hometown to playing on vast stages for epic crowds all around the world. He has earned a following of devoted fans in and around his hometown of Richmond, VA where he was born and raised. Terry's prolific songwriting and enthralling stage presence has deemed him a vigorous musical force, charting two of his albums on the Billboard Top 200 and a video debuting on MTV.

Growing up in a distinctly musical household, Terry was not allowed to play sports, so music became his outlet. Learning to play guitar, piano, drums and bass he awakened a deep seeded talent uplifted by awe-inspiring singer/songwriters such as Kurt Cobain, Prince, and Luther Vandross.

At age 18, Terry formed the metalcore band Cassius with a drive that burned full-throttle, ignited by a passion so strong, it led him to pursue music full-time. At odds with his parents for wanting to pursue music as a career he left home with only his dream. He worked odd jobs that eventually left him homeless and spending many nights sleeping with one eye open on the streets of Richmond. He incessantly focused on making a name for him and his band by continuously touring the country, flat broke, and at the worst of times shared only a can of beans with his four band mates in the sweltering July Texas heat. To him that’s just a mere price to pay for pursuing the dream he is meant to live out. The sacrifice paid off and Cassius released their first album, I Am Jim Jones.

Terry came on board in 2007 as the front man for the hardcore thrash band Bury Your Dead. Terry’s sophomore album with the band, It’s Nothing Personal, catapulted them into unfamiliar territory landing the album at #2 on Heatseekers chart and a spot on the Billboard Top 200. He valiantly brought a twist to the bands’ volatile musical style, a style the band built their die hard following on, by exquisitely melding songs with melodic harmonies that soar between aggressive riffs shockingly yet captivatingly turning the heads of devoted fans. He wrote the album from a perspective of interludes between love and loss and coming to terms. Terry, alongside his band members, hosted the well known MTV rock segment Headbangers Ball debuting their first single off the album, Hurting Not Helping.

On his latest project, Terry has traded in his angst ridden lyrics and pulse pounding beats for a soothing rock infused sound layered with infectious melodies, distinctive rhythmic textures, and topping it off with soulful vocals that reach deep down to your core. It’s written from a progressively less chaotic warmer place channeling the rock influences he grew up listening to.

If you could trade minds with Terry, for just one day, you would hear an insurgent constant sound wave of music, like a streaming list of MP3’s, dropped in your head from an unworldly inception that yearns to escape and live in this world. This unstoppable force is what drives him to create music that has taken him on a global journey from Moscow to New Zealand and back again leaving a trail of captivating music behind thankfully for us to hear. And the best part is, it’s only the beginning.
