Bio

When you hear Myla Hardie for the first time you are hearing the real thing. Myla is an American musician, singer and songwriter who takes the traditional style of the blues and injects a modern sound. Her original songs have a style that is all her own with powerful lyrics and dynamic melodies.

Myla was born in Hollywood, California and raised in Austin, Texas. As the daughter of blues musician and songwriter, Michael Hardie, she was exposed to soul and blues music from a very young age. She began playing piano before she could walk and talk. By the time she was 5 she started writing songs. Myla also is a classically trained violist. Only 13, Myla made the decision to live with her father for a year in the former East Berlin, Germany to study classical music and tour with him while attending school. At 14 Myla started her own string quartet called, "World Haus" with Warren Hood on violin (son of legendary Texas musician, Champ Hood). World Haus became a fixture around Austin for the next four years winning several state-wide competitions, airing on local television broadcast channels and playing a weekly gig on Austin’s prestigious 6th Street.

Myla moved to New York City at the age of 17 and soon decided to pursue her music career. She started writing prolifically and playing her songs where ever she could. In June 2003, she formed “The Myla Hardie Band” whose members include Brazilian drummer, Eduardo Guedes, bassist, Renato R, and Myla on piano, guitar, viola and lead vocals. The result is her debut album, In the Heart Of, released on her independent record label, Worldhaus Records. The band recorded their debut at Sonalysts Studios in Connecticut in July 2003. The ten-track album includes a guest performance by jazz great, saxophonist Emanuele Coluccia (Jazzlito, 1999).

At 26 Myla has her songs recorded on her self-produced album which includes three songs from her father, a Bob Dylan, and a Bonnie Raitt tune she has adapted to her unique style. She has had two successful tours in Brazil in 2007 & 2008 debuting “The Myla Hardie Family Band” with father, Michael Hardie, finally joining the band and now husband, Eduardo Guedes on drums and percussion makes this band a family affair. Now, recently returning from a 7-week European tour in September 2009 to release Michael Hardie’s new Grammy-acclaimed album, Waiting for Perfection, the band has played with some of music’s greats like Chuck Rainey, Milton Hopkins and Jon Paris.

Myla is a true international musician bringing her American roots with her where ever she plays. Take the time to listen and you will hear a young artist who has a rare understanding of music beyond her years. An artist who sounds like no other, Myla Hardie is the real thing.
