"René Moffatt, Here And Now Is Home"

Rene Moffatt’s been rocking his soulful, upbeat folk-pop around the Washington, D.C. area for years, pleasing audiences and picking up fans. Now he’s hoping his new record, “Here and Now is Home,” will help unlock the door to bigger crowds and a wider following. He gets off to a good start on the title track, the rollicking “Simple With You.” Easy and breezy, Moffatt’s tenor pushes the song forward. Molly Hagen’s backup vocals give the track an extra helping of heart, while a boisterous organ gives it soul. Moffatt has a singer-songwriter’s penchant for melancholy too, as he demonstrates on the mournful third track, “You Can Have Your Way With Me.” “I turned off my telephones, skipped the bars and just went home, gave my way to a memory, and let it have its way with me.” Nice turns of phrase like this are evident all over this solid record. Here’s hoping the effort brings Moffatt the attention he deserves in the competitive Washington music scene. - On Tap Magazine

Modern Times Compilation, 2008 (Modern Times Coffeehouse), "Here And Now Is Home" Debut EP (2011)

René Moffatt: A Singer and Writer of Songs. Lyrics that resonate, melodies that endure and a voice that begs for your attention.

The April 2011 release of his debut EP “Here And Now Is Home” marked the beginning of a new chapter in Renés life. Leaving behind the relative comfort of the nine-to-five René has transformed himself writing songs, performing them, and connecting with his audience in new ways.

A constant figure on the Washington, D.C. area's music scene, René has worked tirelessly on honing his performing and song writing skills. With a knack for memorable melodies and insightful lyrics, this up-and-coming songster is quickly making a name for himself as a respected songwriter in the nation's capital.

But the path leading to René’s final calling as a songwriter hasn’t been a direct one. And while his previous lives had little to do with playing music, they, in fact, have provided him with insight and understanding that will make his musical life that much more fulfilling.

Hailing from the dry plains of Wichta Falls, Texas, it was sport that consumed René’s childhood. Even though he would go on to play soccer at the collegiate level it was the discipline and sacrifice he learned that proved valuable when it was time to pour hours into guitar, piano and vocal practices. After graduating from college René began to dive into design and interactive strategy and held positions within marketing and PR agencies. He immersed himself in the very medium that has changed the music industry so dramatically over the past decade. It is with this experience that René will forge ahead, full steam, into music.

What was it, then, that finally led René to music?

“At some point I recognized that we experience everything for a reason: empathy. To me, songwriting is an opportunity for collective empathy. A well written song compels the listener, the audience, to identify himself with what the singer is singing about. It might be a poignant paean to lost love or a hook driven melody made to make you move. Either way all that is required is for one listener to connect and the moment is seized. These are the moments that I live for as a songwriter. I’m not just writing for myself, nor for anybody else, but for that which lies in between.”
