Bio

Mystic Warriors was founded by Andres and Marco Mallea in Washington DC in 1993.
With the experience of having performed with various traditional Andean groups in the United States, Andres and Marco decided to expose their music in a different way. They wanted to make their music more accessible to their American audience by including contemporary instrumentation to their music such as guitar synthesizers, drums, and bass. They recorded their first album self-titled Mystic Warriors, a fusion of ancient and modern instruments that allowed them to truly express themselves to a wider and larger audience and helped them to create their own unique style.
While growing up they were influenced by pop music and culture, they listened to top 40s, classic rock, and contemporary jazz, a mix that influenced their music as much as their Andean background.
In 1995 they recorded The Shadow Of The Sun continuing the fusion of ethnic Andean instruments and melodies with contemporary sounds and arrangements.
Mystic Warriors have been touring the United States performing at festivals, and music venues promoting their music and recordings.
They have performed for all major US government agencies, foreign embassies, museums, the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center, private, corporate, public events, and social parties. They have also performed recitals at universities and colleges and in schools they present an educational program on Andean culture and music to elementary, junior high, and high schools students. In 1994 by special invitation they performed at the White House for Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. They have shared stage with Tito Puente, Bo Diddley, Tom Rush, Spiro Gyra and other well known artists.
In 1997 Mystic Warriors received the Ringo Music Award from The Washington Hispanics, for Best International Folk and World Music Group.
They have recorded music for various National Geographic documentaries as well as other universities documentaries on the Andes.
In 1998 they recorded Beyond Reality with a lot of success specially in radio play due to a touch of contemporary jazz added in this recording. In 2001 Mystic Warriors released Anthology of the Andes a CD in which they recorded some of the most popular traditional Andean songs. In the summer of 2004 they recorded their Mystic Warriors Live in Concert CD released in 2006 along with the DVD version of their live concert. In 2007 they received a Wammie award for Best Latin Recording Of The Year from the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) for their Live In Concert recording.
In 2009 they released 24K Andes Gold their latest recording that follows the same traditional and contemporary Andean fusion sounds with a touch of contemporary jazz and new age styles.
They are currently working on their next studio project, and a Christmas album titled A Mystic Christmas to be released in the next few months.
