Mythology

Mythology

BandAlternative

Unclassifiably brilliant, in a word - epic. The genre spanning 5 piece Mythology manages to capture audiences with their joyful melancholy, energetic onstage antics and full arena sound.

Biography

Mythology first breathed life in 1999, brainchild of vocalist Toby (Silver Ocean Storm | The Second That). Releasing independant solo album 'The Opening' into the aether, Toby followed the project's natural progression to live act - moving from his hometown of Coffs Harbour to Brisbane - where he recruited the live project, which included foundation member TwitcH (Traces | Malaclypse). The Myth Machine stormed onto the now defunct Brisbane Tavern stage on the opening night of legendary darkwave club S.T.A.T.I.K in 2001. The energetic spectacle that was their first show is still spoken of with hushed awe to this day.

Mythology's first incarnation - all punishing vocals, stomp inducing drumlines and dirty, grinding guitar - drew a legion of followers (affectionately known as 'MythKids') to their live shows, propelled them to prominence in the Australian darkwave/industrial scene and saw video clips receive airplay on Rage and Channel [V] for 'The Opening' track 'My Crown' as well as inclusion in an independant music film festival broadcast from Fox Studios, Sydney. With four years of mayhem fuelled gigs all over playing alongside Jerk, Japunga, Headkase, I-Nation and a controversial appearance at Rapid Festival; Mythology Version 1.0 came to a close in late 2005. The machine slept.

Fast forward 4 years and the phenomenon that is Mythology has returned, their sound matured into something that defies classification and is unclassifiably brilliant - in a word epic.

Foundation members Toby and TwitcH are joined by long term bass player Luke, Sky on Keys and Nick on Drums.

Welcome to 2010: A Myth Odyssee - Which will celebrate in tequila soaked style the 10th Anniversary and release of their debut album.

The MythGod is awake and it will eat your children.

Lyrics

Lit

Written By: Lyrics by Toby Skeates

Far and away the flood subsides in a bed of stone...
It swells and deflates in shells of mist and roaring fray...

I'll sit and change...
All shifting and lifting...
Lit waves display...
I'll let you take me out to sea...

Slow folding day, the clouds impart on an island of green...
Lit by the storm and circled down in flowing tide...

I'll sit and change...
All shifting and lifting...
Lit waves display...
I'll let you take me out to sea...

I'll sit and change...
All shifting and lifting...
Lit waves display...
I'll let you take me out to sea...

Edward

So out of place just didn’t fit…
My hands are razors and all that I touch turns to shit…
You feed me all of your lies and try to hide the way that I am…
I will never be like you so don’t you try to cage me in…

Hold on Edward your time is coming just hold on!

Tried so hard to be a part of this but I could never do anything right…
Use me like I’m just a machine but you can’t see the person inside…
I just want to be myself but all you see is a freak….
Everything is falling down, Edward you’re a part of me…

Hold on Edward your time is coming just hold on!

Edward.

Weak

Written By: Lyrics by Toby Skeates

You can shine in a mind but don't you think I know that faults are something that’s failing?
My eyes are open but my fist is clenched into a stone of blades...
The skin is fleeting but integrity spreads out across the floor...
My shadow’s ripe and cold, smiling with the pride of all the miracles that hide!

Bleating:

“What are we? Sincerity? Reduce it. It’s easy...”

You point your judgment and I see your ego drowning out your soul...
Careless and guided no-where, shifting like the fruits of endless time...
Cry and bitch and fall back...

And I’ll save all the wasting to say:

“What are we? Sincerity? Reduce it. It’s easy...”

Threading away...
Shedding for the coil...
Folding away...
Holding for the coil...

“What are we? Sincerity? Reduce it. It’s easy...”
