"Dakota Video"

Anyone with today’s sound technology can put out a song that sounds great. With the echoes, vocal modulators, fancy editing and mixing, any sound person with their salt can make anyone sound like they have talent. The true test is how does one sound with out all the fluff? An Acoustic performance is something not every artist can pull off. But Damien Cripps sure can.

Damien Cripps of the Damien Cripps Band has just posted a video of his solo version of Stereophonics 'Dakota'.

Dakota is a beautiful song, and it is one the Damien Cripps Band has a superb cover of, but to hear Damien perform it solo is a wonderful treat. No fancy stuff, not even a windsock for the microphone, just Damien, his guitar and the beautiful blue Australian sky.

Acoustic is the true test of any artist, and Damien pushed this test by filming outside. This clearly shows the man not only has remarkable talent, but guts as well.

The Damien Cripps Band was formed in February 2005 after a series of bands that Damien had been in over the last 7 to 8 years. Damien wanted to realese the songs that he had written himself and to tour, thus he decided to do it under his own name.

The first single that the Damien Cripps Band released (Pictures) was in the early part of 2005. Pictures had Eric Wiedeman of 1927 lending some vocals and Robbie James of GANGgajang putting some of the guitar on the track. Pictures got some air time from radio stations such as 96fm Perth, Red FM, WA FM and coast FM (Mandurah). Damien Cripps Band covered almost the whole of Western Australia on a tour to support 'Pictures'. In just 4 weeks the band covered from Kununurra to Albany. Everything looked good as the shows were taken in well.

Angels in Darkness was put out in October 2005. This was the second single. Cle from series one of Australian Idol made a guest apperance on Angels in Darkness. Damien Cripps Band's funds were else where so this release was less ramped up. The single had a more promient bass line to it, so although it did get some radio time it was not as radio ready as the the first single 'Pictures'.

Damien joined 1927 to do a tour on the east coast of Australia. he opened for them as the support act and then featured as the second guitar and vocal on stage for 1927. This cause Angels in Darkness to get some more radio airplay on 2UE in Sydney. On the tour the Angels in Darkness single sold out, likewise the whole of Damien Cripps merchandise also sold out.

After this tour Damien headed back to Perth to pick-up where he left the album and keep making it.

The Damien Cripps Band is also making a documentary about being a relavtively unknown band in Australia and the fight to make your presence felt up against artists who are sponsored/financed by wealthy and established record companies.

In January Damien appeared as a solo artist at the Sembawang festival in Singapore. A bit of interest was shown in Damien by aPromoter from Europe. After the visit to Singapore Damien did a small tour run of shows in Europe, France, Spain and Portugal. After returning to Perth in March the Damien Cripps Band were still forging on with the debut album. The album is being made with their touring sound operator Kim Goodlet and Jon Villani from Northbridge Sound Studios. In awaiting for the album to be complete the Damien Cripps Band is giging in Perth and it's surrounds.

Jimmy Barnes, Shannon Noll, Screaming Jets, Richard Clapton, Adam Harvey, Troy Caser Daley, Mark Seymour, Billy Thorpe, George Thorogood 1927, Sara Storer and Lee Kernaghan
