Bio

Jay and Josh Gent are brothers raised in upstate NY who grew up doing what most kids do, skateboarding, playing ball and video games and chasing girls, but they had an exceptional devotion to something bigger than all that--music. These brothers come from a musical family and both play many instruments. Their influences are widely varied, from Otis Redding and James Brown to Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane; from KRS1 and The Roots to Kiss and Van Halen. Josh's style is based in the M.C. tradition, lyric-oriented, direct and energetic while Jay brings melody and smoothness. Their musical styles and personalities naturally balance and compliment each other in creativity and performance in the studio and on stage. Nacirema is an alchemy of played parts and found elements, combined old and new sounds in rhythm instruments, synths and samples; a mixture of hip hop, rock and old school R&B. Smooth verses and catchy choruses over pocket played bass and drums with vintage guitar riffs offer a refreshing sound rarely found today.
