"The Daily News- The Buzz"

The Buzz from the Daily News, Halifax, NS, Canada, August 30, 2007. Writen by Entertainment Editor Jeremy Webb:

"Last Friday, I buzzed down to Stayner's Wharf Bar and Grill and caught a set from singer-songwriter-musician Nadira. She may be just four-foot-eleven, but she has a mighty set of lungs! I have rarely seen a performer give herself over to her material as compassionately as Nadira. Watching her perform, she could have been on stage in a stadium show. She certainly had the energy, vitality and chops to power such a show.

Her new CD Awakening is hot off the presses and she kindly slipped me a copy between sets. She describes herself as a Janis Joplin-Elton John-Sarah McLaughlin mix, and as she deftly played piano fronting a four-pieced band at Stayner's, I could hear elements of all three." - The Daily News

"Q104 Radio- Program Director"

JC Douglas is the Program Director for Q104 radio station (Halifax, NS)who introduced Nadira at her CD release party for her first CD Blackest Black. JC Douglas wrote these comments for Nadira's press kit:

"A rising star in the Eastern sky! Nadira is a talent to be reckoned with. If you like the album (Blackest Black), you'll love her live!" - Q104

"The Daily News- Halifax Plugged In V"

Bio

Nadira is four feet 11" with a ten foot voice. Nadira's unique sound is a combination of Elton John, Janis Joplin and Sarah McLaughlin. Her music expresses a passion that is truly captivating with meaningful lyrics capturing everyday life and colourful instrumentation/arrangements. Her musical stylistics fall under the pop-rock and adult contemporary genres.

Nadira was born in London Ontario and has lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the majority of her life.

Nadira’s evolution in becoming a successful artist began with her stirring renditions of “I’m a Little Tea Pot” and “The Hockie Poky”. As a child Nadira would sing and dance for anyone who would listen! Her life has always included music and performing.

Nadira is not only committed to her music but also her community and family. She is one of five sisters (no brothers!) who grew up in a very busy home where everyone competed for their “voice to be heard”. Nadira learned early on that music and performing was not only an attention grabber but also a very effective and enjoyable way to communicate, share and relax. She was blessed by having music in her home and life as a baby.

Nadira has a very unique sound which is mostly attributed to her amazing vocal ability and stylistics which sets her apart from other female singers. When you hear Nadira's voice, you recognize it as Nadira. Nadira's voice has been said to capture elements of great singers such as Janis Joplin, Norah Jones, Stevie Nicks, Jon Bonham, Anne Wilson, Sarah McLaughlin, Rod Stewart and Kate Bush.

"She may be just four-foot-eleven, but she has a mighty set of lungs! I have rarely seen a performer give herself over to her material as compassionately as Nadira. Watching her perform, she could have been on stage in a stadium show. She certainly had the energy, vitality and chops to power such as show." - Jeremy Webb, Entertainment Editor, The Buzz, The Daily News, August 30, 2007.

Today Nadira is not only a prolific song writer (lyrics and music), she is also a piano, guitar and percussion player.

Although Nadira does not have a favourite artist/band or genre, she is influenced and enjoys a variety of styles such as classical, rock, country, adult contemporary, pop and jazz. Listening and studying such a variety of music has afforded Nadira the ability to be a flexible and versatile song writer.

Nadira is influenced and inspired by songwriters such as Sting, Prince, Sarah McLaughlin, Elton John, Van Morrison, Amanda Marshall, and The Beatles. In addition, Nadira strives to contribute to other inspiring musicians by teaching song writing, arranging, vocals, piano and collaborating on other projects.

Like many solo artists Nadira has experience playing as a band member. Nadira played for several years with bands as a piano player/back up singer. She knows what it is like to eat Kraft dinner and live with 4 guys out of a renovated school bus, fully equipped with bunk beds! Although always known as a “princess”, Nadira has played in some of the roughest bars and is no stranger to lugging gear and running cables. Nadira wanted to learn all aspects of the “show” so that she could fully understand what needs to happen to make the performance rock.

Although Nadira loved being a band member she was truly destined to be the front person of a band and a solo artist who writes and performs her own music.

Nadira has a passion for writing lyrics and music. She is a very prolific writer with an ever growing catalogue. Nadira uses “everyday life” as her muse and constantly strives to keep her writing fresh and unique. This aspect supports her uniqueness as a song writer and endears her to her listeners. Nadira's songs are both meaningful to listeners from the music aspect as well as lyrically.

“Nadira is a polished pop-rock outfit, showing fine tunes from singer/songwriter Nadira.” – Sandy MacDonald, Entertainment Editor, The Daily News.

Nadira is an amazing entertainer who utilizes her music, singing, humour, compassion and “quirkiness” to engage audiences of all ages. Her live performances are a delightful feast for both visual and auditory senses.

“A rising star in the Eastern sky! Nadira is a talent to be reckoned with. if you like the album (Blackest Black), you’ll love her live!” – J.C. Douglas (Program Director, Q104, Halifax, NS).

Nadira recently released her second CD titled "Awakening". This CD was worked on from 2005-Spring 2007 and captures songs that express various themes around the journey of "self discovery" and "the reality of life"- the highs and the lows.

"Awakening" has twelve tracks written by Nadira and recorded at Gate-Keeper Productions Studio (Halifax, NS) and Planet Studio (Montreal, QC) by recording engineers Bruce Burton, Scott Rountree and Jiao Tolbert. The tracks were also mixed at the same studios by the same engineers and was mastered at Lacquer Channel (Toronto, ON) by Phil Demetro.
