Naftali Avari

Naftali Avari

Whatever the audience, we'll make 'em dance. With four years experience, our stylistic versatility allows us to go wherever the music takes us. Our mix of originals and covers ranges from funky grooves to rock & roll to jazz standards, all skillfully and energetically delivered.

Longtime, hometown friends Matthew and Jake met playing music together in high school. Upon arrival at college, they met guitarist Avi and immediately formed Naftali Avari. Over the next four years, the trio grew as friends and as musicians, recently adding the funk-doctor herself Kerry on keys to broaden and blissify the sound. We're influenced by the Beatles, the Grateful Dead, James Brown, Phish, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Radiohead, North Indian Classical music, Red Hot Chili Peppers; really this list could never end.

We love music. Honestly I tell you now, playing together is our greatest passion. Our fans tell us that this shines through on stage. We've all studied music in college, Avi and I (Matt) studied sitar and tabla in India with internationally renowned players, and we really just love playing anytime, always. Watching our audiences dancing, smiling, feeling the love, we know that this is what we have to do. That's why we do it.

We've played bars and Colby College in Waterville, and also around Oberlin College in Ohio and coffeehouses around the tri-state New York area.
